Unfortunately, Jeff Echols crashed and broke his right fibula in 4 places and dislocated his tibia. After the crash, he rode his bike to the hospital in Junction. From there his son picked him up and transported him and his bike to Austin. He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow.

Had to cut the day a little short....

Sometimes you bite the road, some times the road bites you! Ask Duane....

I guess I don't know how to upload a video, or it's the wrong format.

Anyway, he is basically unhurt (will be sore tomorrow though) and the DR is a bit scraped up but running as well as always. Happened on 310 just after the last bump gate and a mile or so from 55 south of Rocksprings. We just headed back down 55 to Camp Wood and took 337 and 470 back to Bandera.

Assessing the damage:

Enjoyed riding with you guys! Glad the damage to the rider and the bike were only minor scuffs and scrapes! :rider:

Had such a great weekend with y'all. It was my first time riding with (read: following) Richard, man that guy rides hard! @ Jeff- at least you have the best war story to tell!

Day 2 I jumped over and rode with RG's group. Great to meet new faces, and BillTea- you still have the coolest bike of us all!

A very enjoyable ride through some truly beautiful Hill Country.

Much thanks to Sander for laying out the track and organizing this ride.

We lost two riders (Sander and Jim) over the two days because of mechanical issues and surely missed their company on the rest of the trip.

Camping was great! Little chilly as we rolled into camp just as the sun was disappearing but it made the ole sleeping bag feel mighty good later on.

Folks who rode with their camping gear were Jim, Jarred, Chris, Bill and me. Makes a motorcycle feel a bit funny... :trust:

All made it through without injury and nothing more than a bruised ego or two. Really a great group of riders and folks to enjoy visiting with along the way.

Here's the remaining crew as we enjoyed the last few miles of goodness.

Just wanted to say thanks to all those who helped me out this weekend! Especially Rick, Jack and Jarod. Jarod picked the bike off of me and boy am I glad he did. It hurt like ****. Jack saved me $50,000 in helicopter fees by convincing me I could ride to the hospital, and Rich stopped his trip to give me an escort to the Junction hospital! Thanks to all the others as well for all the moral support and well wishes. I shattered the fibula in my leg in 4 places and dislocated my tibia. Took 8 screws to put humpty back together. All of this has made me re-evaluate my relationship to motorcycles and while I may at some time in the future ride again I am selling all of my bikes for now. Thanks to you all for your advice and support. I have a 2008 Triumph tiger 1050 in wicked great shape if anyone is interested as well as a 2002 BMW K1200LT and of course the old red pig, Honda 650x. Best to contact me at jeffechols@gmail.com.

The attached trax are the real deal as we rode them. There were several deviations from the trax posted up before the ride. A couple were where the county re-routed a road around somebody's place. A couple were just plain dead ends that probably went through at some point but no longer do. Bandera1 is from Saturday. Bandera2 from Sunday.

This ride sure had its share of events :eek2:

Sander - I think you may have Gremlin's. They are well known for having a sweet tooth of electrical parts.

Glad Team 250 was able to recover without signifigant harm.

R.G. - Thanks for taking the lead of our group, and Bill for keeping me company. Man, you don't slow down much over the rougher stuff with that ride

Jeff - It was nice to meet you Saturday evening at the hotel. You were so excited about adventure riding. I tip my hat to you Sir, for riding out with signifigant injuries, & wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Sparky (WR250R) did great with her new set of heated grips, but the aux turn indicators failed in reminding me to cancel my signals  (see latest post under Sparky bike signature link for grip install) It was great spending the time visiting with those at the hotel and viewing some of those high-end machines. The 250+ mile days were a good insight to what a BDR might be like, and I'm still game :rider:
