FWIW, I rode the motard version at Grand Sport Speedway a few year ago. It lapped at the exact same lap times as my DRZ400. It had an aftermarket pipe that gave it a lot more power according to Goe Kawasaki that was demo-ing it there. I would estimate 23 HP, lol. Thomas on this forum rides the very similar, more expensive, and newer CRF250L and it does great, except in the subframe cracking department.

Here is a review of the KLX250S

Good stuff man, thanks. As far as range for fuel goes how often are the fill ups on this ride? Would the stock tank of any of the ones you've linked here or on Motohouston work for this ride?

Ride in the national forest, be street legal, able to cruise at 70-80mph, aftermarket support would be good.
Let me know if anyone has something for sale, shaman told me to come over here and make a post to see what people had to offer.
May want to look at a DR 650 they will cruise 70 all day lighter than a KLR, but wind protection is lacking, but easily fixed.

There are Pemex in every major and minor city. In much smaller towns there is usually fuel available from a makeshift gas station, poured out in liters, quality unknown but in my experience never a problem.

Out in the dirt there is always / eventually someone with a gas can looking to make some money, but it isn't an easy score.

80 miles is marginal. 100 is good. 120 is better. 150+ is best. If you are marginal be sure to plan your route accordingly or ride with someone with an exxon valdez tank. Or get 1 gallon supplemental tank. If you can't get extended range, don't sweat it, but you'll have to stop at every fuel stop available.

For the organized portion getting there and back you will need 75 mile range to not disrupt the trip.

Re: 2017 MexTrek #6, Oct 26th to 29th 2017

Signed up and paid. Can't wait to get back!
I'm probably going to take the long way to Galeana on day 1. Montemorelos to Allende and then up into the mountains. Head generally NW to San Juan Bautista, then down through Laguna de Sanchez to Galeana. There's a couple of features along the way I want to explore, time permitting.
Trying to figure out if I can get away with extending the trip out for Day of the Dead. Might have to leave Mission for Galeana on Friday instead of Thursday. Time will tell on that.

Great you are going to join us!!!!!

Zeke usually does that route on the way down on Thursday. And if nothing at major goes wrong he shows up at dark thirty. But he skips Montemorelos, instead ditching us at China and heading more northernly towards Santiago. Taking roads 40 >> 30 >> 9 N >> 54 >> 35 . Google maps shows this as a 8 hour 20 minute drive with 241 miles covered, maybe 90 miles of dirt.

For comparison, the group takes a 1 hour lunch in Montemorelos and we arrive an hour before sunset if no one has issues. This is what the group rides...5 hr 6 min and 189 miles, 25 miles of dirt:

I think we will take the route you describe on our return from Day or the Dead.

Real is to good to pass up. I'm going to try to make this happen.
