"Addiction" to Middle East oil and motorcycles

There was a gentleman on a local talk radio show speaking about his plant the day after Bush's speach. He is in the process of making biodesiel out of the chicken offal in Stuggart Arkansas, plant will be in full production later this year.

The gov't already heavily influences energy markets. Why else are we "allies" with a small, Middle Eastern dictatorship that funds Al Qaeda on the sly and arrests people for not being Islamic enough?

I wouldn't worry about the price of food. The US today grows more food than we can eat, more than we can sell, heck, we can barely give it all away. And we still don't use all our crop land. Crop prices have been low for at least a decade and the development of biomass, ethanol, and biodiesel will bring a huge economic boost to the nation and improve national security.

I think the President's plan to use tax based incentives to encourage development of alternative energies is a good idea. Many technologies he talked about already exist, others are getting close. Now is the time to encourage people to start switching away from oil. We can't wait until the Saudi's call up and say "Our last oil well just ran dry."
