Chain Tool

Anybody have a Chain Tool located near Victoria or Corpus.. Thinking about changing the chain on my DL650 and thought I would check before I purchased one..
Thanks

Re: Chain Tool

Probably don't really need one. Just grind off the rivets on a link and use a flat screwdriver to pop off the side plate. Use a clip type master link for the new chain. It's that easy.

I may be old school but I only use rivet type.

On street bikes I am the same way. Now on my dirt bikes I go ahead and use the clip style.

Likewise, I can live with the dirt chain coming apart as I am usually not that far from my car or going that fast, but on a roadbike I only use soft rivet links!! I do not want the chain coming apart at speeds in excess of 30MPH as it can do a lot of damage (To me and the crank cases) and could leave me stranded miles from anywhere.. I would strongly recommend getting a softlink fitted, not a split link.

Re: Chain Tool

That is the one I have. It is good stuff, and a 100% knockoff of the Motion Pro tool that sells for $99.

Re: Chain Tool

Yes, CG has it for $29. It's a good tool, be sure to follow the instructions carefully, especially when breaking the chain. It has upgraded instrcutions included, but here is a useful guide too.

I've used the tool twice, to remove, press, and rivet my V-Strom chain (after getting coached by the man himself, Scott, on my first chain.)
