Before and after pics - 2009 KLR

Several weeks ago I posted here about getting a new 2009 KLR 650. Well, I've completed a couple of mods and wanted to share...

Before

After

List of Mods thus far:

HT Nerf bars
HT Engine Guard/Hwy Bars
HT Skid Plate
HT Luggage racks
HT Luggage mount kit
Pelican 1550 cases
Moose "Bigfoot" extended shifter
New "paint"

I'm very pleased with the results. Still breaking it in so no plans for a BIG trip just yet. A friend from work and I are planning to go the the Caddo National Grasslands this coming weekend. Looking forward to the ride. Of course, anyone interested in going just say the word. I will warn those riders with advanced skills that this short ride will be "G" rated as I get my skills developed again.

Hope you enjoy the pics. I photographed the entire process for painting the bike if there is any interest. FYI - It took me roughly 16 hours to complete the job start-to-finish. I was very thourough and methodical in prep work.

Safe travels,
TTR

I did notice something you didn't report you changed or modified. I don't see any of the white stuff in the background any more.

Tricepilot,

Yeah, your stealth fighter/darth vadar bike was the inspiration. You should have never let me take such close up pics of your bike at Harmons!

I did vary my choices a little from what you did...I went with Pelican cases while you went with Caribou...

Glad to see yours getting dirty!

That looks great. I like the blacked out look. How G-rated is this short ride you're doing? Dirt roads, or trails? I'm a noob with with the DS stuff and have been wanting to check out the area up there just not on my own. Again, nice looking machine.

Is that bed liner? That always looks pretty good.

xdriver,

Never been there but from Google Maps it appears to be dirt roads. That is what I'm hoping for anyway. Not ready for the trails just yet.

If you're interested in going, we are going up there on Sunday...leaving town around 11. If you're interested let me know and we can set a place to meet.

Safe travels,

Re: Before and after pics - 2009 KLR

gixxerjason,

Yeah, it is bedliner. I used the Duplicolor bedliner. I'm not sure I would use it on the bed of my truck but it makes for a very durable "paint".

My truck has Rhinoliner in it and there is no comparison between the materials...however I don't plan on throwing tool boxes and lumber on my bike.

Safe travels,
TTR

Re: Before and after pics - 2009 KLR

Work duty prevents me from joining you in the grasslands this weekend. I highly recommend Greenwood Store as a lunch or snack stop.

Check out the high points on this map that Dahveed and TexasShadow collaborated on....
Link to map.

Greenwood and a few other good places in the grasslands are included, along with a plethora of other riding spots sure to put a grin on your face.

Re: Before and after pics - 2009 KLR

Thanks for the invite to join the ride, but looks like tomorrow will be a bit on the cold side. Seems like a good day for a valve check and fluid change. Enjoy.... if you do indeed brave the weather.

Re: Before and after pics - 2009 KLR

Nice job, I'd like to have something like that in my garage. The bed liner was a nice touch.

A buddy of mine built a mud truck and covered the whole interior and exterior in bed liner. It looked tough, and yet kind of nice in a way.
