REVISED:

I'm diverting to Terlingua due to the predicted winter weather and lower temperatures. If someone is interested in joining me, let me know...

***Original post follows***

I'm putting together a quick Friday/Saturday trip for next weekend 912/7 - 12/8). I'll follow the NMBDR route on my XR650L:

Friday: Trailer from Midland to Queen early. Unload and ride Queen to Cloudcroft. (~165 miles with an extra loop Northwest of town - route below) Hotel in Cloudcroft.

Saturday: Grab breakfast and follow same route back to Queen. Load up and trailer back to Midland.

It appears that the Queen Café/Store/Cabins is back in business. I am planning on calling to confirm that I can leave my truck/trailer there. I don't mind riding solo, but if someone needs to burn a vacation day, let me know...

Wish I could go but I do not have a life. Was just there on October the 15th. Was 29 degrees and light snow flurries. If you get the chance and are not eating in Cloudcroft jet over to the Mayhill cafe they have some good grub there.:eat3:

If you can, please post an after ride report. I'm going to do this route starting in Dell City hopefully in 2019.

Casey, that's a great ride. Can't wait to hear about it.

I love burgers and pie at the Queen Cafe, they also have a couple of cabins.

Sander, looking at the upcoming weekend. The forecast is calling for some precipitation/colder air on Friday, so I may have to divert to Big Bend (I'm ~3.5 hours from Queen, NM or Study Butte, TX...). I'll keep watching the weather and make the call at the last minute.

I had a buddy get laid off last week. He doesn't currently have a DS bike, so I may get my 450 prepped too if he is interested in coming along (he will ride the 650).

I hope the weather cooperates.

There is also some neat stuff to ride south of Queen to the Texas border also. There are some forest roads plus extremely technical stuff to warm you up.

Thanks for the video's Sander. I found another ride report describing some pretty steep/rocky roads in the Queen area.

The weather is pushing me to December 9 - December 10. Still weighing my options on Queen/CC vs. Terlingua.

Looks like I am going to divert to Terlingua due to weather... If anyone is going to be riding in that area on 12/9 - 12/10, let me know...

Look up Jay Masterson at Terlingua RV. He’s a KLR rider and fun guy to hang with.
