Citizens get carjacked on a regular basis. I expect not too many police cruisers are carjacked. I wonder which is more common, citizens being carjacked or nutcases opening up on LEOs indiscriminantly?

To be fair, there are quite a few other ways of "setting one off" without a nuke. That is right up there with someone saying that every time I fire up the microwave I chance setting off a nuclear bomb in my house.

It can be controlled, aimed, focused, and scaled just like anything else. It is just not portable yet, and also I would imagine the liability would be too great to practically deploy. But it certainly can be done. You would think someone with 7000 hours of training would know this.....

Bill's pretty close to correct. When I was in Naval Electronics Tech school the guys weren't allowed to crank up the "practice" RADAR as the pulses would literally "cook" birds in flight. EM[electromagnetic] Pulses are akin to a radar pulse. Oh, and it would disable a non-ECM vehicle because the ignition system uses a COIL-a device that operates with...yup, you got it, EM pulses[its a fancy transformer]. The "only" problem is that putting out enough energy to disable an ignition system is likely to "cook" a driver. WAIT, problem solved!
