Hey guys just got a 2013 Yamaha WR250R. Haven't rode in about 7 years when I sold my CBR600RR to save up for a wedding and a house. Looking for some trails if anyone has some spots they'd like to share. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site!

There are the trails up in the Sam Houston NF, but you need the OHV sticker to ride those. You can get them at most bike shops and I think they are $16, good from Sept to Sept. So if you buy one in Aug, it would still expire in Sept

Otherwise, there are a whole mess load of dirt roads once you get up North of Hwy 105.

How much pavement do you want to ride vs dirt? I live on the west side of the Woodlands and my son and I used to like to ride from our house up slightly twisty (this is South texas!) back roads to run off road on the SHNF (Sam Houston National Forest) multi use trails. At least an hour of pavement to get to the multi use trails. Now I throw the bikes in the truck (also takes at least an hour to drive and unload) and just ride the dirt. There are also some gravel roads in the forest.

There is also Sterling Ranch Off Road park. All his trails have been linked into one main "enduro" trail. It takes about 45min to 1 hr to ride the loop. Plus he has more gravel roads. Brad also has more variety in terrain than Sam Houston plus optional small stretches that are MUCH more challenging than SHNF.

Finally there is 3 palms but it is more motocross track plus a limited amount of trails. http://www.threepalmsesp.com/about/

Aways call before you haul.

Glad to stumble on this post. I'm out of Austin area but have been calling and for the past 2 years every time I have checked the ohv trails were closed. Can a plated bike ride these anyway? Seen posts about people going to a Kelly pond area. Haven't ridden this area yet. Where is a good spot to park the truck? I'd like to haul the truck and bikes out there for a day of riding will definitely look up sterling ranch and google earth for some dirt north of 105. Any suggestions on other forum discussions to check out for some good dirt routes?

Check out this thread for links to dirt roads north of Huntsville in Davy Crocket National Forest. More dual sport than trail riding. I really need to get up there. Anyone interested?

I assume you have checked the SHNF thread about where to park, need a plate, etc?

SHNF has two multiuse trail sections. The west side (including Kelly's Pond Trailhead) and the east side (only accessed from The Eastside Trailhead). You must have a plate to ride any road (dirt or paved) in SHNF. One must have a plate to get from the East side to the west side (must use paved and possibly dirt road).

Perhaps someone else can chip in on more of the dirt riding north of 105. I know there is some there but I don't have any experience there YET.

From a fellow WR250R owner (see signature link). Where is your bike pic?

Even plated bikes need the OHV sticker to ride the trails.
