FREE Rally Clinic - Sat Sept. 22, 2018 in Bedford, TX
First, you may be asking yourself "What is a long-distance rally?" If you are envisioning something like Sturgis, yeah, that's not what this is. A LD Rally is like a scavenger hunt on a motorcycle where you gather points by riding around and taking pictures of really cool stuff on a route of your choosing. I highly encourage any new riders to do a short Google search on LD rallies (like the Iron Butt Rally, or Butt Lite Rally, or NIITWIt Rally, Heart of Texas Rally, Mason Dixon 2020, the Void, Minnesota 1000, etc etc etc).
Every year for the last 6 years, there has been a rally clinic held in North Texas during the month of September. Originally started by Wayne Boyter for the BigTexRally, the NIITWIt Rally took over the helm. Designed around helping familiarize the rally beginner or novice with the gross motor skills that is long-distance rally riding, the event has helped many newer rally riders to have safe, successful rides in their first events.
Any rider is welcome. You don't have to be a rally rookie. You don't have to be signed up for any future events. Anyone with a motorcycle and a desire to learn something about LD rallies is welcome.
This year we will be holding the 7th North Texas rally clinic, hosted by the Southern Long Riders Association in preparation for the 2018 Big-as-Texas event and also the 2018 NIITWIt Rally. The event is completely free to the rider.
The rider clinic will be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at the Texas Harley-Davidson dealership in Bedford, TX from 9a-5p. We will be meeting at PJ's Cafe in Irving, TX at 7am for a no-host breakfast prior to heading over the Texas HD for the start of the clinic.
The clinic will comprise of about 1 hour or so of a brief, informative slideshow about rally basics. Then, each rider will be given a rally pack from which to plan a short, 4 hour rally route. From 11a-3p, the riders will ride said route, will return to Texas HD by 3pm, and will go through scoring. After that, we'll have a brief "lessons-learned" session, talk about things that worked and things that didn't work.
