R1150RT oil cooler fan?

The other day I got cought in a major traffic jam on the IH-45 north bound parking lot. I watched the temp. guage climb pretty high. When I saw the oil light flicker then I decided that I needed to do something and do it fast. I got of at FM1488 to find another parking lot but at least the bike did cool to a normal temp.
Enought rambling, Somewhere I found an article where someone had put a BMW oil cooling fan on the oil cooler like the P bikes have. They had a switch mounted on the left side where the stereo information screen would be if you had one.

I have searched several web sites and can't find the article.

Anyone have it or know where I can find it?

This month's BMW ON (Owners News) mag has an article on the exact same thing. RT rider from Florida went through the dealer to have one installed. Seems that if you go the RTP route, you need to order all the parts individually (no kit) & add a thermocouple, or a SW to engage it.

If I get a chance to scan it this weekend, I can e-mail you a copy. However, there is really not much useful info in it, other than what I've just noted above.

Surely I am not the only one that would want to be able to cool the bike down it cought in heavy traffic when it's near 100 degrees out?

You are not alone, same thing has happened to me a couple of times. The best thing to do is to avoid the Interstate completely :-D

Fry's may have a small 12V computer fan you can rig up to a regular switch.

I have been thinking of putting a fan on my RT.

No need to buy the BMW parts. With a little creativity and web searching, you can find a plethora of small fans that can be mounted to the oil cooler.

You could do anything from a simple switched fan to an electronically temperature controlled one.

Do it yourself
