VFR 1200X DCT anyone have one

V2 or Wee?

I'm totally stoked after the first week. I'm just starting to "play" with it really

I find the suspension harsh after the ohlins on the GS and total lack there of on the Wee. I set them to "factory" spec from where the dealer had them. I think they had it mistaken with a 600 lb CBR. California roads maybe but Dallas and a dual sport? So I'm still adjusting that to get it right. The tires were inflated like hockey pucks right at the max. I dropped them tonight to where I think they should be. That should soften the edges.

I installed the top box so I have basic utility back.

The DL1000 is where I'm leaning in the Suzuki, but it's one of several contenders. Thanks for the evaluation, keep us informed as you shake it out. Seems like a heck of a bike.

Your garage makes for boring porn. I want to see this bike somewhere interesting.

:D

I just wrapped up a road trip on the beast and I have to say it did exceptionally well. So Dallas Tx, to Huntington Beach Ca, San Diego, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Moab, Durango, Dallas. 3990 miles in 12 days. 1 sore *** and 1 set of tires dead.

I left Dallas at 6am Friday and shut down about 10 pm Phoenix time. Just under 18 hours and shy of 1100 miles. Slept on the floor, got up and knocked out the remaining 450 miles to Cali. Elapsed time 33.5 hours for 1500 miles. The bike was awesome It just really didn't care, 90-95 through the desert loaded like a rented mule. I have the 48l Givi outbacks and 40l(?) tailbag then a dry bag with tent etc. I am also of superior dimensions.

The Scorpions started wearing funny just outside Fort Worth and were really toasted by Phoenix. But I pressed on to Cali ordering PR4T's to be drop shipped in San Diego. I "worked" there a couple days and a buddy from Vancouver rode his Harley down to meet me. We drank a lot of beer and headed to San Diego to get the 3rd guy on an FZ07.

I had the tires swapped and hit Lyon's Valley road. Better than the Dragon in my opinion. Then did the Midway carrier tour and headed to Old Town for Mexican (margarita's).

The next day it was a long winding ride to camp in the desert north of Joshua tree. Then a day by day tripped to Hoover Dam, the the Grand Canyon and up to Arches Nat Park in Moab. We did between 250-350 miles a day. Tented, hoteled, drank copious beer. We separated at Moab and I headed to Durango via Ouray, absolutely OMG beautiful.

Engine is my favourite for this duty to date. Getting to like the "growl"!

DCT, awesome. Pulling into LA stop and go and go traffic after 1500 miles and some 24 ish hours of saddle time, it was a life saver.

So 7 months 9500 miles I think it may be a keeper.

That sounds like an AWESOME ride with a good pair or two of padded bicycle shorts and some monkey butt powder. Your bike also sounds like it is up to any task you can through at it. Glad to hear Honda is still knocking em dead.

Thanks for that write-up on your 1200X. I'm considering one of these and reading all I can. I currently ride an ST1100 but looking for something with a little more upright riding position. And I love my V4, although I know the 1200X V4 is a little different. I do a fair amount of LD... how's the stock seat for 1000 mile days? have you added panniers or any other farkles? MPG?

Edit - I saw your comments in the 1200X owners thread... sounds like you really like this thing! I think we ride similar... mostly LD and commute, with a little packed gravel mixed in. Sounds like this bike would fit me well. Just wish it had CC.

@dosxx has one he bought last fall. I rode it during the ghost ranch freezeree last weekend. He has a Russell day long seat, it is like sitting on angels hands. I could not keep that thing under 100mph :).

Has the dct like I do on the nc, love the dct. Handles so nice and smooth, I found the suspension fine. The weight is a plus on the road. Joe added 5 gallon auxiliary tank. You can buy thee veefour cruise or mccruise for about $600 or $1000. With cruise, rdl, dct and gas tank this is the perfect rally bike.
