I used to buy kits specific to my bike for around $40 and it came with everything needed to change it (filter, oil, etc.). No way am I paying someone $70 or more to change my oil - have fun wrenching on your bike, it's part of the fun of owning two wheels! Something I'm lacking at the moment unfortuantely
I normally do, but I'm between houses and my tools are in storage. Luckily I only had to buy the torx head screwdriver and found enough of the other tools in my RV to do the oil change.

Re: Oil Change Price

I understand Dennis's situation.

I always do my own maintenance on all my vehicles until I got a small car that I can't fit under. I always feel ashamed when I pull up at the oil change place and leave with a sore hiney after paying for it.

Re: Oil Change Price

I called Family Power sports here and they wanted $80 to mount two new tires and that's with my bringing in the wheels. First off, go screw your self. Second, it's sad that he didn't even care he didn't get any business.

Re: Oil Change Price

That is why I do almost all service on all my vehicles bikes truck and car
replacing the AC in my Mini Cooper tonight. Dealer wanted $2000 for a new compressor and replacement.

Picked up the compressor from a customer in Dallas that does rebuilds for $300 takes about 3 hours working lazily to replace and a co-worker used to be in
AC work and has the vaccum pump and R134A for the recharge

Re: Oil Change Price

I'd say that it all depends on how much trouble you want to go through. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. But, I'm no stranger to what's under the hood, plastics, or whatever.

I'm due for an oil and filter change myself. BUT, I donot have a torque wrench. An easily remedied "problem" with a quick trip to Harbor Freight. BUT, my nearest store is about 20 miles. AND, I'm finishing up my Masters this semester. SO, time is a luxury I don't have right now. To do my own service wouldn't take that long BUT, add the costs of getting the wrench, buying the stuff, and then getting it done...

...$75-$200 to have Honda do the oil service and maybe change the plugs while I sit with my laptop in the service center, or drop the ole girl off, so that I can write a paper sounds pretty reasonable.

Re: Oil Change Price

If one has the $75-200 to spare. Time is often a precious commodity, especially with a child, a spouse, a full-time job (or in my case, 2 part-time jobs), and an education all demanding attention.

I pull my personal vehicles into the lab and demonstrate proper use of various tools. Having sufficient demonstration vehicles is sometimes a problem. Just trying to be helpful.
