But she sure sounds strong.

silly me ... figured I should wait and see if it runs, shifts and stops before buying driveway jewelry.

It does sound like you have a runner..What else do you need to get it on the road(trail) ?

The covers are not farkels, they really are needed. Side covers are made of thin magnesium. One fall and a hard object comes in contact with a side cover and I'll be posting links on "JB Weld side cover repair" for you.

Literally seen brand new bikes with covers busted on first day of ownership when new owner forget to get side stand down all the way and the shifter or brake lever dinged and cracked the side case.

Oil change and screen check are on tap for tomorrow.
I was rechecking my hoses to see if they have taken a set.
and sure enough, the crossover hose is laying against the motor mount.
I'll loosen it and clock it bit for clearance.
Then I think it'll be ready for a zip around the neighborhood.

If it runs good, shifts fine and stops as it should, then I'm ordering side covers and a CDC tail light.

Then it's off to chase a bonded title and get it road legal.

Sounds great Mitch. We need to go riding. You can bring it over and run it around in the dirt out here if you want. Lots of room to play.

Kind offer, Doug.
Maybe this weekend?

And it takes very little twisting of the arm for me to go for a ride.
Just say the word.

Took it for a spin today.
Goes, stops and turns ...

This thing oughta be fun!

Saw something else today that I don;t think is right.

Full choke to start.
first click to let it warm at a high idle.

After about a minute, I see the exhaust just off the cylinder is glowing red.
Hit it with the temp gun and it was over 500*.

Pushed in the choke and it returned to low idle.
Temp dropped to about 380* and the glow went away.

This can't be normal.

The glow indicates a lean condition, correct?
Lean at 1/2 choke?

Normal
Very thin wall header tube on a drz
Will glow in just a few min sitting still with no airflow

Mitch that is a full Yosh header, the one I had on my TLR/TLS all glowed. The one on my Superduke 1290 (ti) was very nice.

Mo stuff ...

Stopped by the local DMV and got the bonded title package.
Will begin chasing that rabbit next year.

Cycra Handguards, already on it. Got them in this morning. Now the Ape and the DR-Z have a set. Chasing a minor oil seep on the DR-Z, not sure where it is coming from. Hopefully I will figure it out.

What was wrong with the sweet guards you had on it?

**** that packing tape ...

The hooligan is very hard to start when cold.
The starter sounds like gravel is in the starter housing.

I'm thinking the starter is dragging, pulling massive amps to spin and starving the coil for power.

An ebay replacement was $20.

But I'm having a heckuva time getting the starter out. It's just the 2 bolts and the power cable, right? It's loose and wiggles a bit, but just won't pop out.

Thought I might ask if I'm missing something before i hit it with a hammer ....
