The number one rule for this forum!
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Eph 4:29 (NIV)
Think before you post. Leave out the vulgarity, personal attacks and foul language!

Lies are fragile. They require constant attentiveness to keep them alive. The exposure of a single truth can rip through an ocean of lies, evaporating it instantly. - Brandon Smith

If you want government to intervene domestically, you’re a liberal. If you want government to intervene overseas, you’re a conservative. If you want government to intervene everywhere, you’re a moderate. If you don’t want government to intervene anywhere, you’re an extremist. — Joe Sobran

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. – Murray N. Rothbard

When one possessed of the Truth suffers from a heavy heart he is susceptible to a more dangerous affliction — the craving for power to eradicate error, to cause Truth to triumph by force. - Frank Chodorov

Where politicians flourish, long history has harshly taught us, people and their liberty wither. Where the state is god and the "public interest" worshipped, individual man will be found bleeding upon the altar. - Karl Hess

The accepted wisdom is that without the state, society would collapse into lawlessness and crime. In fact, lawlessness and crime define the very nature of the state and the society organized by it. - Bionic Mosquito

But the myth of the rule of law does more than render the people submissive to state authority; it also turns them into the state's accomplices in the exercise of its power. For people who would ordinarily consider it a great evil to deprive individuals of their rights or oppress politically powerless minority groups will respond with patriotic fervor when these same actions are described as upholding the rule of law. - John Hasnas

Re: Soft Luggage

The side bags are bigger than I thought, which is good because I pack heavy.
There are non-water proof bags on top of the water proof bags and on one side the non-water proof bag zips off and has a shoulder strap. I will put a REAL brake light and turn signals on, the "Blitz Box" is history.

If I didn't have the billet rack I am not sure how I would secure the back, the "clips" don't work on the DRZ rear fender because it has wide rails under the fender for strength I suppose, anyway, I would probably run the strap completely under the fender, but it would take a beating from the elements.

If I secure the strap around the frame it is a hair from the exhaust, so that is why it is through the brake res. guard, for now.

Re: Soft Luggage

Mine arrived last night, I haven't tried fitting them to the bike, but they seem well made, 2 of the small external bags, unzip from the main unit and several of them look waterproof.. Will try fitting it over the weekend but so far it's looking good. I was surprised that they don't come with any kind of fitting instructions, so I do want to say thanks to John Dirt for posting a few pics of his bike so I have an idea about how to attach them..

Re: Soft Luggage

I wanted to add that I am happy with it, thanks for the heads up Roger.

I don't expect it to last forever for $136 bucks, however, I am inventive and I think I can get a lot of life out of it.

I can't wait to use it.

Re: Soft Luggage

Installed my Sherpa on the DRZ and it looks to be just the ticket for DS riding. Very straight-forward installation. I ran the right-hand tie to the brake guard as well.

The bright yellow lining in the main compartment will make finding stuff easy. I put my tool roll in there and will keep snacks, phone and wallet in various pockets.

Even came with a yellow bag tucked inside the big compartment for separating things.

I'll do my best to thrash it over the next week and report back.

Don't forget about the free t-shirt also. Did you pick KTM or BMW?

Also they have an offer where if you send them a photo their bag on your bike you'll get $10 off your next order.

Asked for KTM, they sent something else. No biggie, it'll be another work shirt.

The Sherpa Tank Bag preformed flawlessly on and near the single track around Cloudcroft.

Never got in the way whether sliding forward into the notch, climbing steep hills, or just cruising along on street or trail.

It was a joy to have along and I prefer it to wearing a backpack. Especially nice were all the pockets. One of which now holds what is left of my DS mirror . . .

Re: Soft Luggage

I bought the "out n back" bags for the East Tex 450. When I got the bags I fit them on my KTM 525, they fit well were easy to install. I was pleased with the bags. I then put a spare tube in each side with my tools and flat repair kit in the top. I then rode about 20 miles of pavement and 5 miles of gravel. I noticed that left side bag stitching was pulling. I got some web straps from academy to help hold the bag to the base so I could use them for the ET 450. I e-mailed Nomad Rider 9/17 telling them of the condition of the bag and that I would return it after my ride for repair, I have not heard from them. The ET 450 was this past weekend and 60 miles into it the bags are beating on my back side. The next stop showed that one of the hooks that clips to the fender had broken, ok I just wrapped the strap around the fender and tightened it up. This worked for the next 300 miles then I was being accosted by the bag again, now what. The buckle on the strap that I had wrapped around the fender broke. I still had one of the straps from academy and I just wrapped the whole thing to the fender and rode on.

I will box them tonight and send them with a letter to Nomad Rider and wait.......

Re: Soft Luggage

I used the out n back for two days on the EastTex 450. I slammed the bike down on the wal-mart parking lot going 3mph and the bag was scratched but intact. I did not use the clips, just the buckle. I had to fab a bracket to get the left side at the correct angle and I ran the webbing through bicycle tubing to keep it from wearing through the webbing. The bag/s do not move at all.

I am bummed to hear that you had so much trouble, I suspect mine will fall apart too. Guess I better carry black duct tape.

Re: Soft Luggage

I forgot to mention, the top bag is not rain proof. Other than that I am very happy with it while it is still holding up.

Re: Soft Luggage

Seems like this small bag doesn't hold up as well as the larger Nomad bags. Other similar reported failures on that section of stitching.

Today only bikebandit.com has the equivalent sized Giant Loop Mojavi on sale. Normal price is $219 marked down to $175. AMA members get an additional 10% off and no sales tax and free shipping so net to your door is $158

Considering the Nomad is now $119 plus $16 shipping (total $135) the price gap is now narrow enough I think I will pull the trigger on the tried and true GL.
