Barstow to Vegas 2017 Planning Thread

Ooohhhh, careful there sport. Donny knows..

I will be doing the ride. I did the day 1 portion in 2012. I will be taking a travel trailer so no hotels needed. KTM 530 EXC. Looking forward to seeing other Texans!

Great to have yet another TWT rider going. The Texas contingent will be stronger this year. Always good to see!

Calling rider number 55, your correctly numbered LAB2V registration tag is now available. Only 31 more of you need to sign up, then I can.

What, how does this work? I loved my old number #57, how do I select a number or is it just issued on first come first serve?

Starting to think about logistics and finances. From San Antonio to the casino is about 1300 miles. That's two nine-hour days in my old truck and $450 in gas there and back.

Hotel rooms include two nights at the casino, one arriving and one leaving, one night each in Palmdale and Barstow. I've grabbed my Barstow room for $90 and Palmdale room for $134. I think I paid $38 per night one year for the casino and $78 the next. The Orleans has to be booked by 10/22 and the discount code is "AMA." The word is that the close hotels for both Palmdale and Barstow are close to being fully booked. The Holiday Inn in Palmdale still has rooms as of a few minutes ago. I may have a spare bed in Palmdale. I'll camp on the way out.

Be happy to repeat 2013. Already have the hotel rooms booked and everything.
:sun:

I'm not out just can't commit yet. That would be a big swing for haul vehicle fuel expense. $450 for just you or $225 and then we split two ways. 75% reduction.

been meaning to ask you, what size gas tank are you buying?

I'm not sure yet. I need to get out on the 300 and put some real miles on it.

Give me a shout when you know for sure. I'll either ride out with you or camp in the truck.

Attention on the Hotels

I just learned that the AMA D37 crowd has moved to the Embassy Suites hotel. It's about 4 blocks away from the Holiday Inn. I'm not sure I'm changing my reservations from the Holiday Inn since they are walking distance apart, but if you haven't made reservations yet and want to hang out with the other riders the night before the ride, consider the Embassy Suites.

I just bit the bullet and signed up for both days...

Does anyone happen to know what the cancelation policy is on the registration fee? Just in case one were not to be able to make it... I looked but did not see anything.

Contact Keith or one of the other D37 reps on the contacts page. I have heard second hand of people getting their money back, but can't confirm their refund policy.

There is really no rush to sign up for the ride as a number of slots will be open later in the year. I probably won't sign up until the count get close to 400.

I registered as the #57th rider, no idea if that will translate into a number with 57 in it or not...

By the time of the ride I will be 58 years old, does that count for anything useful?

Donny are you going?

Yes, barring the unforeseen, I am planning to go for sure. Hoping i can pay close enough attn to the registration count to snag #87. If so I will be officially registered. If I miss my getting my favorite number, then I probably won't register until last minute. Just in case something gets in the way of my going.
