Just spoke with Ms.Muscle. She just bought a pair of boots today and gloves and signed up to take the riders course this week. Things are moving along. I can't wait till she can ride along on a Mexico trip.

I rode along on a Mexico trip today. I rode to Mexico, turned in my soon to be expiring papaerwork, and turned around and road back to Flour Bluff.

Re: WTB - Starter Bike for short person - Austin area

Ms.Muscle checked in yesterday. Since I last posted, she bought herself some gear (spent more on a pair of boots than I ever have), passed the MSF class with no more than the usual amount of drama, learned she still has a lot of work to do to actually know how to ride a bike and, yesterday, she and her boyfriend bought a bike. An '01 Virago 250.

Now the fun starts.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.

Sounds like a good choice for her first bike. Safe travels, I hope she shows up to some of the local TWT events.

Gwen will be pleased to see her on a Virago!

Re: WTB - Starter Bike for short person - Austin area

Hey Guys! The deed has been done. The motorcycle has been purchased! It's a little Yamaha Verago 250. Nice and short, not to heavy, and I can reach the pegs & the brake pedal at the same time! The bike search was significantly limited by my boyfriend who decided he wanted in on the motorcycle. We split the cost and have been happy with the purchase so far.

I did take the beginner's rider course, but had to finish it on the scooter when I couldn't figure out gear shifting during class. Still got the motorcycle license though! Fortunately, my boyfriend knows how to ride and we'll be putting in several more hours of practice time before I get out there on my own.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions, it's great to know how active this community really is!

Re: WTB - Starter Bike for short person - Austin area

Thought I'd post an update. Went for my first ride with MlleMuscle yesterday. We rode out FM 969 from Austin to Bastrop and back. Great ride, little traffic. Definitely a bucket list moment for me. She's got the skills, just needs more confidence.

It was her first time out of town on the bike, farthest she's ever ridden (30 miles each way) and the fastest (we topped out at the speed limit of 65). It'll be fun when we remember that ride.

MilleMuscle,

I heard about this ride and now I have read about it. I am glad to see your streets ridden map is expanding. FM 969 this weekend , the COTA ( Circuit of the Americas) coming up next!

Keep it up,

Dale
