GRINduro for KCF

I was lucky enough to go to the 1st last year and this years edition of the GRINduro. Held on the U Lazy S ranch outside Post Tx. It's limited to 66 riders who are lucky enough to get your money in first, lol. Some of the who's who in Texas offroad riders and a few National stars.

I'm sure I'll miss a few as there wasn't a formal introduction, this isn't about stars but offroad riders riding for a cause and huge fun. This property is very technical and challenging property for a flatlander like me. I did 3 climbs I'm not sure I would try again, peer pressure in a conga line of 14 riders, not time to bail. In the 2 days I got in around 70 miles. Some climbs and drops I might not normally try, lol.

8 time National Enduro champ Dick Burleson, Endurocross champ(and other things) Cody Webb, S/X rider Andrew Short, road race legend Kevin Schwantz, and Ben Spies, Gregg Storie, and famous Houston lawyer Dan Cogdell, who was in our group. Cole Kirkpatrick is the ringleader, lol.

Cody Webb is flat out amazing, in Sundays extreme ride our group got to watch him out in the cliffs putting on a show on totally unbelievable cliffs.

Being I'm old n slow I didn't get to ride with the names, lol. They break us up in I think 6 groups with a ride leader in each. The good thing, we got to ride with Landowner Richard Kirkpatrick. Last year he was easy on us but had confidence in our group and took us on some great trails. I think he sent 6 of us on 4 splits that some skipped, so that was a treat.

Some pictures of the extra games played by the good riders, that picture under the bar he saved and won the event. I believe it was at 3 foot or 2ft 10in. Amazing. BTW, Sunday morning was cold. Got ROCKS, lol.

You have to be quick on the draw with the credit card when the entry comes out. Filled up fast. That is a bit south and east of the LTR property and North of the PBMA. Good riding all around there. Looked a like a fun time and some notable names there from what I saw.

Man, that looks like an awesome opportunity to to rub elbows with some great riders and maybe learn some good stuff in the process!

Pics 4 and 5 in the first set, with those rocks, look pretty hairy!!

This is normally desolate land, so only potties were portable ones brought in. There was probably a 100 people total, just a guess I'd say 40/60 on rv's and motels. We were in a motel. Only 6 miles from Post, awesome.

Rocks were challenging, but so were so of the climbs and decent, pucker factor for me. A couple of vertical at the top.

Re: GRINduro for KCF

Ekms... They stated it was easy to hard. It likely depends on the number of folks there. At a minimum I'd think 3 (A, B, and C riders). They have been a round the sport for a long time and I know they have been involved in putting on some great enduros. I'd think if you went you wouldn't be disappointed for sure.

I didn't actually count but thinking there was 6-7 groups. All but 1 group is A or B, which is most of what the riders attending are. There is national caliber riders in this thing.

In reality this is not a beginner ride even the lowest group that they put us old guys in. The terrain here can get real tough in places. They take the better riders on the worst(best?) trails. But even our group had to negotiate some pretty cool stuff. The climbs/drops can be intimidating. Lots of off camber, uneven tight turns. The hill climbs can have really lose rocks that can get tough quick. Our guide would let the top 6 in our group do some of the tough trails and regroup us where the trails came back together so I got to see a little more of the place.

The extreme ride part on Sunday is definitely for the big guys(and you may be one!). I'm not.

I've been both years, this was better than last year for me, last year our "easy" group was too easy for the most part(they put me and my traveling partner in B for the afternoon), this year it was a great ride. On Sunday we even had a AA rider join us.

IF, they decide to have a 3rd version, be in line soon. It filled up in less than a hour this year.

I saw Florida and North Carolina iicense plates, lol.

I know some of the top guys riding in it as well as Cole hosting it. Just wasn't sure on how they did the groups in case I brought some friends along. Plus none of us have Toyhaulers. Would like to attend this in the future. Last year was alot colder than this year.

This is a limited entry event. You can't just show up and bring a group. On-line entry that fills up in maybe an hour.
