Amount paid x .0625 for the sales tax. Plan on another $100 for application fees etc.

Don't know about a bike, but if it was bought from a private individual they don't care about how much you paid. They will use the standard presumptive value (SPV) and then charge you tax based on that value. It would appear that too many people were being less than truthful when saying how much a 2n hand vehicle cost. If I remember correctly you can go tk the DPS website and search for SPV and then put the vin number in and it will tell you the SPV.

In that case he shoudl have the deqlership papers. He may want to try the SPV route as it may be less than he paid from the dealer.

Re: How do I calculate TT&L for my bike?

Well so much for getting around the tax thing, I had to have a Bill of Sale, the title (it was out of state) and of course insurance. Now being new I'm pretty sure you will need the dealership paper work so the state can get the paid for price off of it. I don't know of any way around it, just go to the tax office and see what you need before you actually do the work, that way you will know all the answers before you want to the paper work. Looking at 6.25 percent, that's $6.25 per hundred, license fees, somewhere around $30 for other fees, have your state inspection done and papers in hand, your MSO for the bike with the back filled out by the dealer and signed, and of course your insurance card. If you don't go with all this, be prepared to make another trip. Makes no difference which county you are in, in Texas, it will be the same price and needed items for all of them.

PS, as for telling the state a lower price hoping to get the tax amount for less, the state now has a presumed value formula and you will pay that fee if yours it too low, ie, they are going to get their money one way or the other.

No SPV option when you buy new or when you buy from any dealer for that matter. You pay tax on the dealer invoice amount.

If a private party sale then you pay a minimum of 80% of SPV value.

The dealer should have done the paper work for you. All you need to do is take that to the DMV and get your tags, pay the tax and have the bike inspected if they did not do it.

Give Russellville a call.

This is not rocket science, just go to the tax office and find out what you need and what it will cost, information is free there.

form 130-u

This is what you will have to fill out and it has the table for calculating the taxes and fees halfway down. Fill that out, take whatever you got from the dealer, proof of insurance, and a "greensheet" (vi-30a) that you get when you have it inspected.

And your checkbook.

If you do it within 30 days of purchase, you do not have to show insurance with that vehicle listed, but you do have to show some insurance.
