Hi, first motorcycle...

When I have the bike up on the center kickstand, and spin the front wheel, it sounds like the brakes are rubbing on the disc. It spins pretty easily though. Is that normal?

Yes, normal. Brake pads don't retract automatically. On the road as the wheel flexes they will get pushed away from the disc a little bit, but just spinning on the centerstand they will still touching the disc.

Ok, great, thanks. I come from road/triathlon bicycling, and rubbing brakes is a very bad thing. :)

All disc brakes rub slightly; your car's brakes do, too. Perfectly normal.
