Well, last bit of my camera battery took us to the halfway point on this trail...to the gravel road. If there had been some random truck waiting there I'd have stowed away on it. But no such luck.
An inconspicuous little foot bridge - shadowed ominously just at woods edge - started the second half of this experience. It looked sooo inviting.
It's just as well we didn't have the camera going for this next part. By the end I was shaky tired and my head's gyroscope was totally out of whack. A relentless combination of switchbacks, ever changing tilted background, straight trees, high altitude, thin air and constant jostling takes its toll. Sounds crazy, right? Thought it was just me but both mates mentioned this same disorientation. Call it sensory overload or whatever...
The combination made for some miserably bad form on my part.
But, we eventually made it down to the Silver Jack reservoir and finished the trail with all three of us still physically intact and the bikes running.
And so, they both turn to me and ask "What are we riding in the morning?"
This is what we came down getting to the end of the trail...Yes, really.
I'm glad we rode that one...but I have no plans to do it again. If y'all head that way, get with me on some gpx. The first mile or two is way more confusing than most. We wasted half an hour beating around the creek looking for the right trail.
