Lets take this discussion over to the 250 dual sport forum as we shouldn't take the WR thread so far off topic...

http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78038

None of them are as nice as the KLR650 at high speeds. Not to say it can't be done but all the weight and geometry that makes the KLR terrible in the mud makes it much nicer on the highway. The light weight of the dual sports makes them much more fun in the dirt and around town but a bit wind blown on the highway. Above 50mph the KLR wins hands down.

Re: WR250R Thread

Just catching up on the discussions in this thread. My input:

- I have no wobble in my front wheel at 65 mph. I have MT21 tire on front (low profile) . You might make sure the spokes are all tight and the wheel is true. If you have done some nasty jumps or hit big rocks it can mess up the spokes.

- For 80% hiway and 20% easy off pavement I think there are better bikes for that type of duty. Unless your 80% pavement is mostly low speed stuff, city and county roads. 2 lane hiways. For getting on the hiway and putting miles behind you there are better choices. However, you can see by my trip report in previous posts, I did a 2600 mile trip on my WRR. MOst of that was off pavement and long hours of riding. I found the WRR to be great!

I've never run the mt21. Is it wider than the 606?? Why do you prefer it over the 606?

I run a mt21 front and 606 rear. Seems to be a great combination as the mt21 does not seem to wash out nearly as much as the 606 front.

Both mt21 and 606 are 90/90/21.

The reason for the 606 rear is it lasts longer and provides great all around riding.

Re: WR250R Thread

I used a 606 front once on my KLR and it had a wobble on pavement. I have heard others report this same behavior. The MT21 on front has better highway manners. But it still works real well off road.

I stray with the 80/90 low profile tires since I do not want the bike an extra inch taller.

Re: WR250R Thread

FYI, Just Gas Tanks is selling IMS tanks on Amazon. At $247 it's the best price on the 3 gallon tank I've seen, and they have several colors. For example, here is the black one:
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-WR250R-IMS-gallon-Tank-Black/dp/B004VZWEIG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360904213 http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-WR250R-IMS-gallon-Tank-Black/dp/B004VZWEIG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360904213

It still says 3 in stock, but there's really only 2...

Re: WR250R Thread

What is a reasonable out-the-door price for a 2013 model? I found one at a local dealership. Dualsporting/dirtbike is not popular around here. So maybe the dealer is desperate to git rid of it?

Do Texas WRs come with the California smog stuff?

Does anyone know if the official 36.6" seat height is before or after lowering the shock?

Probably before. Here's what I came up with:
Rear shock height set to minimum (-0.9")
Yamalink (-1.1")
Seat Concepts low seat (-1")

Seat height, loaded and unloaded, will also depend on your weight and the amount of spring preload.

Wolfman Rocky Mountain Side Bags

These things are 30 liters each. I find that a real nice size for when I travel with camping gear and such. They have a water proof inner liner bags. This lets you keep the shell on your bike and slip you gear in and out with the liner bags. Seems to work ok. I test loaded them in my garage this afternoon. I think these are keepers. Here are some pics.

Straps acros the rear of my bike.

Clears the exhaust just fine.

Re: WR250R Thread

Read through the thread and did not see any discussion mottarding their WRR.

I like DS as much as the next bike, I like to describe my puttering around as motorized hiking, but I am definitely interested in the SM setup of a WRR.

Anybody?

Is it recommended to change the one or both sprockets when switching wheels out from DS to SM?

There’s a complete SM setup including X front brake system for a good price right now in the for sale section in the WR250R forum. No affiliation.

Split personality

Street meat. EDIT: Gave it a bath and took the standard issue garage door photo. Dang it's fun with the sticky rubber on there, and the "X" front brake is much stronger.
