This was brought to my attention, an interesting alternative to electric vest?

"An on-demand garment technology utilizing inflatable air chambers to capture body heat and create fully adjustable comfort in even the harshest conditions."

Hmmm..... Like an air mattress or wetsuit, the heat exchange relies on your body heat, ie: LOSING your body heat to warm the airspace. Seems like unless the baffles were really insulated and protected from any type of breeze it could be a losing proposition?

I don't know why but that air pump reminds of the movie Austin Powers...

What is interesting is that it uses argon, not regular air. You have to buy cartridges for it to work best.

What is interesting is that according to my periodic table, Ar has a thermal conductance of 0.00004 cal/cm^2/cm/degC/sec where as N and O both are only 0.00006 cal/cm^2/cm/degC/sec. That's a very small difference between Ar and dry air.

Given that data, it just makes me put this thing in the "gimmick" category. Not saying it doesn't work, but to claim Ar makes it work better when the difference should be immeasurable makes me wonder if Brian Williams/NBC wrote the copy on this one too.
:duck:

Well, I am not promoting this but have to think the air chamber will keep your heat the same way that a down jackets helps.

If it was not that expensive... I would try it. I don't own a regular heated vest and would not buy this at their asking price.

hmmm Argon is what they put in the double pane insulated windows.:ponder:

air matresses can be cold to sleep on.

I would worry about puncturing the air bladder after repeated use, especially dual-sporting. I wonder if the air bladder would provide an extra layer of safety in case of a mishap?

I know the trend in Europe is to sell motorcycle air vests that protect the thorax and cervical spine during an accident. They have a lanyard attached to the bike etc that expands the safety jacket much like the air-bag mechanism in a car.

Now if they could pull a vacuum on those chambers instead of injecting a gas it would be a great insulator.
