Rodman Charged With DUI After Motorcycle Crash

Tuesday, October 21, 2003

LAS VEGAS — Former basketball star-turned-celebrity bad boy Dennis Rodman was treated for leg injuries and charged with drunken driving after crashing a borrowed motorcycle Sunday outside a Las Vegas striptease club, authorities said.

Police said the 42-year-old former NBA star was issued a misdemeanor summons and was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Las Vegas after the crash before 9 a.m.

A UMC spokeswoman said Rodman was treated for unspecified injuries and released.

Rodman was not jailed. Authorities said he will be scheduled to appear in a Las Vegas court at a later date.

Employees at Treasures, an opulent new striptease club near Interstate 15 west of the Las Vegas Strip, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Rodman was treated for bloody shins and a possible ankle injury.

Police spokeswoman Carla Alston said Rodman borrowed the motorcycle from a manager at the club, and was doing riding tricks when he crashed.

Rodman is a regular visitor to Las Vegas, where he reached a confidential settlement earlier this year with the last of four women who accused him of fondling them at the Las Vegas Hilton hotel-casino in 1998.

He was charged last month with being drunk in public in Newport Beach, Calif., where police say they've answered scores of complaints about noise at his home. In August, an Orange County, Calif., civil jury rejected a 39-year-old woman's claim that Rodman imprisoned and sexually assaulted her at his home.

The 6-foot-8 Rodman, a former NBA rebounding champion, last played in 1999-2000 with the Dallas Mavericks.
