I just bought a 2005 Kawasaki 636. The bike had been sitting in a shed since 2009 and previous owner can’t find the keys. Does anybody have a recommendation on how to go about getting a replacement? Located in San Antonio. I have the clear title signed but haven’t transfered it to my name yet.

See if there is a helmet lock on the bike. for several years kawasaki put
the key code on the back of the helmet lock so if you pulled the helmet lock off you had the key code. for the helmet lock, gas cap and ignition

the other method woudl be to pull one of those three items and take it to a good locksmith.

If you choose the ignition switch, you will have to drill out the security screws to remove it.

With title and proof of ownership I got a key for my truck made at dealership, it was a chip type and pricy. Don't know if this works with bike dealers. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Village Locksmith in Universal City will make the key once you remove the ignition switch. They will not do it on the bike. Extreme Powersports on Judson road will remove the switch and send it for rekey if you don't want to do it yourself.

Las palmas key shop on general McMullen has worked miracles for me.

Thanks! I’m calling them!

Piggy backing on this thread can anybody recommend somebody in the Houston area? The big box stores are unable to make one for my Yamaha.

The OEM key is pretty soft and I've found a source for aftermarket keys that are better.

Up here in The Woodlands I have used Dawson Safe & Lock Services to cut keys from blanks I bought off the web for my GSA.

I was able to get a key cut...took the tank and ignition and only charged me $25+$5 for 2 keys!
