A simple sign saying "No Trespassing" or "Private Road" keeps me away. I haven't been confronted by a belligerent person yet but I am assuming it will happen.
Many times in the Texas Hill Country, the area just on either side of the county roads is often on private land. A few years ago, I stopped on a such a road just west of Fredericksburg to stretch my legs and drink some water. The property owner who was watching drove up in his truck and said I was on private property and needed to leave. He followed me with his truck until I exited on 965.
