X Games in Austin!!!!!

Well, I totally understand we all have different interests, etc. BUT..if you are in Central Texas and the cost is keeping you away, consider the ticket price of the Thurs opening event on the South side of the Capitol building and the price? free. Here's the text from XGamesAustin.com:

"Celebrating 20 years of X Games, ESPN will bring all the action to fans in downtown Austin on Thursday, June 5 to kick off the inaugural event in front of the iconic State Capitol building. Fans can get up close to the action with free admission to the Skateboard and BMX Vert competitions. The Vert ramp will be located at the intersection of 10th Street and Congress Ave in front of the Texas State Capitol building.

Starting that day and through Sunday, June 8, 20 hours of live X Games action will be aired on ESPN and ABC, which will also be accessible via WatchESPN and WatchABC to viewers who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. An additional 7.5 hours of competition will be carried on ESPN3 as well as the latest coverage across ESPN digital platforms, including XGames.com, X Games apps, X Games pages across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and more.

After X Games demos around the world in 2013, Tony Hawk & Friends will bring the show to Austin for a 30-minute demo before the BMX and Skateboard Vert finals. In addition to Hawk, the demo will include Skateboard and BMX legends and current athletes, including Mat Hoffman, Neal Hendrix, Kevin Robinson, Kevin Staab, Elliot Sloan, Alex Perelson and more.

Following the competitions, X Games and Myspace will kick off three days of concerts with Myspace Presents: Holy Ghost! hosted by Dos Equis– a free show at Austin’s famed ACL Live at Moody Theater venue. The show will mark the beginning of all X Games Music performances running June 6–8, streaming live on Myspace hosted by Dos Equis. Myspace’s return to X Games MUSIC follows the live streaming of all four X Games Aspen 2014 shows. The live music webcast will also be distributed on XGames.com, the X Games Facebook page and the X Games Livestream Channel.

Click here to RSVP for the Myspace Presents: Holy Ghost! show. RSVP does not guarantee entry. Access is first-come, first-served until venue reaches capacity.

The following is the schedule of events in downtown Austin on June 5 (all times local CT):

5 p.m. Tony Hawk & Friends Demo
6:30 p.m. Skateboard Vert Round One
8 p.m. BMX Vert Final
9 p.m. Skateboard Vert Final
10 p.m. Myspace Presents: Holy Ghost!"

I am attending, but, like some of you, I am not there for the live music. I don't even know the bands. That's not really my thing. I am not really there for Tony Hawk. But, do you know about Matt Hoffman? He was a prodigy in the BMX world by changing the scale of ramp jumping to levels no one had even thought was possible.

He was ahead of his time with BMX stunts:

He then built a series of monster ramps at his home in OK. The last one to set a new world record over 3 days of jumping. He did this to set a new standard for BMX. He had no sponsors and no one was paying him.

He did set a world record. But, on day 3, the effort did not end well. Here's a summary. His story:

Tony Hawk is one of the best known names in skateboarding.

Both Matt Hoffman and Tony Hawk set records in their sports, and they will do a demo Thurs at 5pm at the south side of the TX Capitol in Austin. This event is free. If you have young kids, they'll likely love this event or any of the XGames events. ;-)

Me and 4 buddies are leaving Thurs pm from Midlothian..bought the GM tickets for Friday
with a 30.00 premium upgrade for the Moto X only 83. and some change per copy. maybe a little down time on 6th street and a spirited ride through the hill country on the way back will help the medicine go down?

Either way...look for my big ol' bald head on TV..I'm in!!!
