Trying to decide if I really want a high quality action cam (GoPro, Sony,etc).
Sound on this generic thing is terrible...

Sound wasn't too clear - but was the camera inside a waterproof case?
Picture is OK at 720p, what brand is it?

DBPOWER EX5000

Totally cheap GoPro knockoff :) It was in a water proof case, as far as the audio, it does not hand the sound the little twin makes very well. Next ride I am going to chin mount and try again.

I encoded it in 720 to test a theory, 1080 and 720 have almost the same quality on this thing so the 1080 is likely just stretched 720.
 
My Virb Elite sounds like that also with the engine noise.
Mic is mounted in the back of virb.
Virb is on top of helmet.

With the Virb tied into Sena intercom, not too really too much engine noise.

What sounds are u really trying to pick up?
Some engine noise gives more of a feel of what the terrain/bike is really doing.

Just less whiny ambient noise. I'm not trying to VLOG or anything, just record the rides.
 
You will get the same noise (for the most part) out of any camera, unless you have mic control or muffle it somehow.

This video has the virb on top of helmet, connected to the Sena intercom.
The single mic for both video and intercom is mounted inside the helmet at the chin guard.

I'll upload two, one of slow going in Chloride Canyon and one of pavement at highway speed.
That should have what your looking for as a comparative to urs and the two I upload.

Well, I don't have decent one on highway. Meaning too short.
