Lewisville, TX 1831

Found this cemetery from before Texas was a state or a republic. The grass was over waist high so I couldn't find the oldest markers. Quite a few from turn of the 20th century. Lots of other spots where only a worn rock marks a grave. Funny to think this was Mexico when the first folks went under here.

Some of them were slaves. In 1845, the Fox family, which owned about a dozen slaves, buried a slave child named Melinda on the family farm, which eventually became the town's cemetery for black residents. Named Fox-Hembry Cemetery, the plot still exists today. It has become an historical cemetery for African Americans.
