Exclamation Colorado road closures - Summer 2012

Riding in the Colorado there are some new updates:

1. A sinkhole on US 24 near Leadville was caused by an old railroad ...closure (near Tennessee Pass) is expected at the top of Ryan Gulch Road. It is suppose to remain closed for several months...consider re-routing. It is located 9 miles north of Leadville forcing traffic to 90 and Interstate 70.

2. Colorado Department of Transportation crews set up shop for several more months of work on Interstate 70's “big bump” a mile west of the Eisenhower Tunnel. I have hit this area recently on the weekends and traffic can be delayed for quite some time...during the weekday is much better and specifically during non-peak traffic is the best time to get through with minimal disruption.

That is all for now....

That'll make it darned difficult to get to the best campgrounds in the Leadville area this year. And actually, I have a MC buddy from Indiana who is coming through Leadville next month. I'll pass a link to him. Thanks for posting.

...just did the detour and the highway folks say at least 2 months to complete the repairs. The old railroad tunnel from the 19th. century passed underneath the highway and the support beams just gave out.

...there are two distinct seasons in Colorado, the winter and construction season.
