Schwantz has released the following statement via"Facebook":

“I have devoted over 25 years of my life to MotoGP, the premier motorcycle road racing world championship. I spent four of those years bringing*MotoGP
*to Texas, my home state. As a result,*MotoGP
*agreed in 2011 to host an annual race at Austin's Circuit of the Americas (COTA) track.

“I'm sorry to say that COTA is now attempting to unlawfully force me out of this project. I believe COTA has committed fraud in doing so. Earlier today, I took legal action against COTA. I was forced to file this lawsuit in order to protect my rights, my reputation, and*MotoGP
itself.

“I want to see*MotoGP
*come to Texas, but I cannot allow COTA to take advantage of me. More important, I will not sit idly by while a newcomer to racing discredits the sport I love.
Looks like he's getting passed over as a promoter

I don't know enough about the case to give an intelligent answer, but it sounds like Kevin did the work and now they want to freeze him out.

They are doing to Schwantz pretty much what they did to Hellmund. Once things are "set up" then they feel they can get rid of the facilitator.

Basically the guy behind this was sitting on a huge piece of land that he had slated for development before the crash. A piece of land that wasn't worth what he had paid for it and since credit at the time was in effect "frozen" for large development projects in the middle of nowhere and an area that had garnered very little interest as a residential development of that type (a few thousand typical tract homes). Hellmund basically gave him another use for the piece of land and then he runs him out of the deal because he thought Tavo was making too much money. So now you have a real estate guy and a horse racing guy thinking they can become top level race promoters.

Army brat here. I spent several years in Germany and learned most of my German the old fashioned way - in the gutter.

Literally, "tail", like a dog's tail, but it has a different meaning in German slang. Take it from there.

Re: Kevin Schwantz files suit over Texas track

Its all about the DOUGH... Millionaires arguing with Billionaires, and trying to hose each other so they can get richer.

I think that Schwantz was sincere, and wanted to bring big time motorcycle racing to Texas. The guy has won US Superbike titles and Grand Prix titles (on not the best bike out there). He's always flown the Texas flag on everything her's ridden at the world level. He is a HUGE promoter of motorcycling, and two wheeled sport, and has all the moto contacts. They hosed him over. He's been promoting COTA all over the place. I hope he puts 'em in the ditch.

Re: Kevin Schwantz files suit over Texas track

Grand Prix Title...singular....and the ONLY reason he won was because Wayne Rainey got paralyzed.

But that has nothing to do with this argument. I don't think it SEEMS that Schwantz is being the jerk here.

COTA responds to the lawsuit...

"We were informed by Dorna that Mr. Schwantz has no contract to promote a MotoGP race in Texas" - Julie Loignon, COTA spokesperson.

He won because he had more points than any other rider after the last race. That makes him the winner. He wasn't involved in Rainey's crash. He didn't tell Rainey to crash. In my opinion, he was one of the most talented riders ever. He rode obviously inferior equipment to many wins. He also gets my vote for loyalty because he rode for Suzuki his entire professional career when he could have switched teams and ridden top notch equipment. The last time I saw him, I mentioned his world championship and he said, "Yeah, I slipped one of those in." It was obvious to me that he recognized Rainey's riding ability and the crash MAY be the only reason he won. He still won.

Re: Kevin Schwantz files suit over Texas track

This royally sucks. Schwantz was the reason the Motard race almost made it to Austin, and if not for him the COTA wouldn't be moto-ready. He was already planning on moving the Schwantz school to COTA when finished.

The COTA guys must be real *******s*.
