Another one bites the dust.

Farm to Market Road 3540
Plans have been in the works for many years for Lake Columbia to be built along Mud Creek, which FM 2064 crosses. In advance of construction, a new Minute Order was commissioned in 2005, to reduce the mileage of FM 2064 to 5.6 miles (9.0 km). This change will affect the road by splitting it in two, and its intersection at the current southern terminus at SH 135 in Tecula, will not connect to the shortened FM 2064 afterward. Therefore, the future installation of the separate FM 3540. Construction on the lake has not yet commenced, so signage and length of FM 2064 has not yet changed to reflect the 2005 Order for FM 3540

FROM TXDOT:
In an ongoing effort to enhance state roadS, the Texas Department of Transportation is kicking off a project to convert County Road 322 into a two-lane Farm-to-Market road between FM 986 and State Highway 34. The new road will be named FM 3486. The road will establish connectivity of the state highway systemin the northern part of Kaufman County. The $4.8 million contract for the construction of this project was awarded to Ed Bell Construction Company. The work zone is expected to be established in mid-July.

This one was approved in 1987!

I don't think this road exists any longer. Look at this sequence of Minute Orders:

Minute Order 105686, dated 06/27/1995; DesLtr 03-1995, dated 06/30/1995
Cancelled. (Bexar County) Mileage transferred to UR 3487.

URBAN ROAD NO. 3487
Minute Order 105686, dated 06/27/1995; DesLtr 03-1995, dated 06/30/1995
From UR 471 southeastward to IH 410, a distance of approx. 3.290 miles. (Bexar County) New Designation.

Minute Order 114168, dated 12/18/2014; DesLtr 4-2014, dated 03/02/2015
FM 3487 was removed from the state highway system from FM 471 southward to I-410, a distance of approximately 3.2 miles; control, jurisdiction and maintenance were transferred to the city of San Antonio.

It looks like they made a mistake and removed the FM, which had already been removed, instead of the UR.

This one may already be working. Went up 986 the other day and they had county road 322 blocked off doing major work on it. No signage up yet to say what they are doing. Will check back on it when I get a chance.

it's surprising how long some of these projects take to get off the ground.

Lots of bureaucracy...

This road is going to be an issue: FARM TO MARKET ROAD NO. 3526

Minute Order 090802, dated 09/26/1990; Adm. Ltr. 002-1990, dated 12/13/1990

In Frio County, a segment on County Road 156 at Hondo Creek, a distance of approximately 0.1 mile. (Frio County) New Designation.

I can't even find county road 156 on google maps, mapquest or my paper map. I've even looked at historical maps of Frio county to see if I could identify it. I've found Hondo Creek and there is a road crossing it, but it's labeled County Road 1515 and Lower Hondo Road.

I plan to do a little riding this weekend. I hope to get those Bexar and Atascosa County roads.

3432 (Bexar) 3465 (Bexar), 3498 (Atascosa), 3502 (Bexar),

3410 Goliad county.
D162F999-3366-4221-A2BB-2E946DFDE81E_zpswmrzydwp.jpg

It was 7:40 this morning. I left the house early to beat the rain. I was mostly successful. I saw 30 deer, 12 turkeys, and 1 coyote. The coyote was on 3410.

I got the three remaining Bexar county roads and the roads in Atascosa and Kimble County. Wet ride and bad traffic San Antonio to Austin, even on 130.

I have located 3479 (Tarrant), and it appears that there is only one sign, but it doesn't look safe to try and park to get a picture. It's at what looks like a busy intersection with no shoulder.

GOOGLE MAP ON 3479

There are a couple of junction signs that might be accessible-- they have the FM sign and an arrow.

GOOGLE MAP OF JUNCTION SIGN

Can I grab the junction sign or does it need to be actually on the road?

Added:

FM 3537 is entirely in Frisco, not in Denton. A little out of my range for this.

If you think it's not safe, grab the junction signage. IMHO.

Went back up FM986 today. Still no signs up saying what they are doing to that county road but a local was standing there watching them work. I stopped and ask him if he knew if they were building FM3486 and he said yes.

They are making good headway. I would guess that if good weather continues they will finish it in a month or so.

The panhandle is done--awesome riding weather up there the last two days. I'll go get the three roads in the valley and the one in San Patricio, if no one else claims it, in the next few weeks.
