Hooligan Motard Complete

LOL sorry, I just have a tough time getting my head around the thought of riding anything with the word tard in it

Ya that's understandable. That's the way they look at you when you pass them on I-35 as well.

My favourite was coming home from work one saturday and I pass a dad and his son with the KX's on the trailer. Had the MX helmet on waved as I passed.... You should have seen the kids face.

My DRZ is armoured up and a little beat up from off roading so it makes a funny loooking motard. Not a bling bling poser. It is a set of knobbies off the trailer. Actually I have DOT knobs so it would be off the trailer.

You must have been asleep for the last decade? Tards were THE growing segment. Heck, I think it's sort of peaked, now, the motard fad that is. They're great fun to ride, though and the racing is simply awesome!

Well considering I havent ridden in about 12 years or so, I would have to say that I have been a bit out of touch :P

Also very cheap to insure, and when you're buddy drops it in the yard (208s on grass slide a bit) nothing breaks.

You are right Mortared is lot's of fun I had my XR 1996 set up that way for a while, you can get a 21" street tire from Metzler I did not change the springs in the fork's knowing it would be back to dual sport mode!

With the spiralling cost of the plastic bikes and their insurance I think motards are going to be more common. There are 3 or 4 manufacturers puting out factory motards. The DRZ being the baby of the lot. For me the 2 sets of wheels are the answer because I do not want a dirt bike that gets ridden a couple times a year. When I get my mods done this fall I will have a nice strong engine that will work well on and off road.

Mine being armoured up if it does fall over it will likely be at low speed and damage would be non existent for most cases. Acerbis will sell an entire plastic kit for just over $100 bucks if need be.

I also have an E engine that may just get bored, stroked and fall into my S.:trust:

Who else is coming out with one? I sat on a DRZ two weeks ago if it was a 650 I am in? And with the extra set of rim's it can but dirt ready?

Well, the "motard" word is French, from the French series where they started it after seeing the old "Superbikers" series on ABC's wide world of sports on TV back in the late 70s. In the US, it's called "super TT" or "super moto", but the bikes are affectionately monikered "motards" or just "tards". It's in, it's new, it's the latest and greatest and most up to datest...:lol2:

In the past, it was a builder's deal, but now you can buy a KTM all set up either racing version or street and the Suzuki DRz400SM like Chirpy's which came out a year or two ago. The SM stands for super motard. Now, there is a VERY tasty looking Aprilia 450 TWIN I've seen pix of that looks absolutely delicious! Oh, lordy, would I love to have a street version of THAT one! Ah, it'd probably just get me arrested and my license taken away.

That very aprilia is available, SVX. There are a couple KTM's, Husaberg has a 610. Supposed to be wicked but a little maintenance heavy. Ducati is coming out with a monster 1000 cc that was a concept bike last year although at 1000 it really falls out of the supermoto thing.

Suzi does the DRZ 400SM... I am partial to a DRZ E model SM conversion, lightest best performance of the group. Mine is an S. Honestly the DRZ will run with the best. Mine is a dirt bike as well so not just SM. There are a few 475 CC strokers around that put out nearly 60 hp and no reliability issues. I am doing a carb and pipe to beef up the top end for running the highways. Mine is really soft above 75mph. I have the E engine which would be a good bore and stroker. The hp and torque are about the same as the KLR an DR 650 now.... (and it is lighter)

The 400 is a nice versatile little bike. There are lots that are better at a single task none that do so many so well. But I am biased if you didn't notice. I don't typically buy bikes very often, the ones I do tend to stick around. Plus my wallet is skinny these days so the bikes can't be too fussy. My fussy 2 smoke got sold off so I can enjoy again.

I redid the base links in my first post they won't move again. 4pm wednesday

Like any addiction the better it gets the more you want. Me and my Suzi are fine.

All it takes is money.

Oh gawd...I forgot how beautiful that 'priller was...I'd happily give the DRZ-SM the boot for one of those.

Anybody got a couch I can sleep on for a couple of days after I get it? Won't happen until about April of '07.

It'll only be for a few days...then she'll want help with the kids ;-)

Only if I get a few miles on it after you pick it up. ;-)

Yeah, no need to remind me. That right there is the essence of my problem.
