Four Quads do the Forest: SHNF Labor Day 2010

I know I know, so of you guys love to hate on quads, but they're tons of fun and I don't care who knows it.

My BIL and two of his buddies, and I took the quads up to the forest. I was a little nervous about being the only one who had ever been out there and I really didn't know my way around. As well as, not sure we'd be able to make it thru everything.
The weather was great, the trails were perfect, and to my surprise even being labor day there were very few people out there. There was a group of guy there on Hondas, but they left around lunch and later a pair of KTMs showed up.

We started at Kelly's Pond, rode up to the trail head north of there, and then hit the north west trails. We turned back were they split because one fo the guys was running low on fuel. Once back we stopped for lunch and then hit the trails going the other direction. I have to say, between the map on the SHNF website and the Trail Riders of Houston map, it wasn't that bad getting wround. we only got turned around once or twice. After this I feel pretty comfortable making my way around there as long as I have the map, but even then i could make it home if I didn't have one.

We got a little rain juts before we got back to the trail head for lunch, but it cleared out, and we were there by ourselves, so a little drag racing never hurt anyone

Got back out on the trails, had to stop and move some logs a few times, had to go really slow, when the trails got narrow or way over grown (that was morning and afternoon), and less than half way back the skys opened, and we got wet. Really wet. The trails were getting slick so our pace slowed considerably. Add to that we were all having issues with our goggles, and not being able to see out of them, so 3 of the 4 of us were riding sans goggles, so that slowed us down even more. I really do not care for riding w/o goggles, I much prefer to have them on, but it was a "darned if yo do, darned it you don't thing", and I was having a really hard time reading the trail so off they came.

All in all it was a GREAT time, and the rain makes for cool stories / memories. I wish I could make it out there more often than I do. I will definately take the quad back out there, and I need to get off my keester and get the KTM together so I can ake that out there.

Alright, enough chatter, on to some pics...
