Bought this from the original owner last summer and have just about finished a cosmetic resto. 78 Bultaco streaker 2 stroke 125 with 955 original miles. Trying to decide whether to do the mechanicals as original or really have fun and find the right 90's 250 w/c MXer and fit the drivetrain and brakes from that. 40 hp in a 205 lb. package should make for a frame-twisting good time!

Leave it original. Never seen one of them before. Has to be worth more the way it left the factory than modified. Very very nice resto. Love the black and gold how they look perfect together. KP

Recalling experience with Bultaco 250s. If you ride it, be sure to maintain the primary chain and clutches. Neat bike.

I'd vote original. There are plenty of bikes without the character that one has that could be modded to play with. There aren't as many with true character and soul. They should be preserved.

10hp and good for a top speed of 75mph.
One up recently on E-bay and it was pulled down but had gone over $2300 in bidding.

I used to have the occasional use of an early 70s Bultaco trials bike. But the controls were backwards and I never really got the hang of it. What about this one - universal control setup?

Yeah, although these were never " officially" imported into the US, (according to the innerweb there were around 400 made their way here) if I remember correctly all bikes being imported into the States on or after 1975 had to have Japanese type controls-shift left brake right, as this one does. Bultacos and some Japanese dirt bikes have a shift shaft stub coming out the right side if you want to flat-track them.

This times 69! If you decide to sell it, I am first on the list.

Beautiful bike, I would keep it original.

Y'all got to check out the videos of this model bike on you tube! It has this cool sound it makes from those big un bushed cooling fins you don't find anywhere else.

hmmm been looking at pictures and the Metralla GTS 250 engine looks like it would be a drop in and looks just like the smaller 125 but has more than twice the power. :trust:

The bottom end on these are the same all the way up to the 370's. Only prob is that the dirt oriented motors have a canted exhaust port for a single downtube frame where this has a central port for the double tubes. Never seen how the Metralia is laid out cuz I've never seen one in my neck if the woods. My thinking of the w/c engine swap is because the bottom end and cylinder fins on this are so huge that a w/c motor would be able to be adapted in here without messing any of the original stuff up.

Too beautiful to cut up. It's a showpiece. Get yourself a basket case for reengineering exercise or you will eventually feel guilty.

Lovely job. Always liked me a Bultaco.
