Chain breaking tools

I need to shorten my chain by a few links, I am considering a Harbor Freight one which has mixed reviews. What I really want is to install the master link with the seals. This is not a bicycle chain! I need some serious squeezing to get the link to go together and I can not do it if the 0-rings are on.

I can not even imagine trying to repair a chain on the trail with out a tool.
Whats a suitable tool for the mobile tool kit? What has worked , what did not?

if you have the room the Motion pro chain breaker would work better

I have the cycle gear Stockton chain breaker that they regularly have on big time sale and it gets the job done, but in its case it is not very practical to carry on a naked bike.

Dave head down to Cycle Gear. thier in house brand chain breaker will do what you want at a decent price. It is not a tool that will last lots of use in a shop environment, but it does great for the once and awhile home user.

Thanks, CG had a break and press. The total kit was 90, so I opted for the two things I needed to get it done!

Nice tool, have one...
But it is just a side plate press tool... Not as Dave asked about a chain pin press (breaking) tool, nor a rivet staking tool. If you use clip type master links (do folks still do that on street bikes?) that little press tool is handy

Just limited in function.
