This guy rode his Ducati sport bike from Amsterdam to Tokyo last year. On his way through Croatia he wiped out and broke his shifter peddle near my friends place in Croatia. He helped him out and got it welded for him. My friend has a motorcycle shop in Croatia. On his face book page he has more pics of his trip as well as one where he mounted knobby tires on the bike.

Wow. Typically, the GS650 is the weapon of choice for that and similar rides. If he only wiped out once, he clearly knows what he's doing.
