Around the Bend - March 22-25, 2018

Is there another thread for route planning for this event? If so, please let me know where, if not here it is...

I have a proposition to big dual sport riders:
Friday: Terlingua to Marfa, down south on Pinto Canyon Road and then head north on 170 from Ruidosa and hit 2017 back towards US90 a bit north of Valentine Then whatever...
Saturday: Terlingua to Presidio and cross into Mexico at Ojinaga and visit Peguis canyon and head back ***will need passports but no other docs*** Time permitting, go back into USA, enter the park from Terlingua and ride Maverick road to Santa Elena Canyon(decent dirt with some sand washes but nothing too difficult really)

Please let me know if you would consider these two rides

Sounds like a good ride both days. Me and Dean might be able to join. I'm on a Tenere and he is on a GS. We are staying at the ElDorado. Should be there on Thursday no later than 5. Lets hook up and make it happen. We will have passports.

The 17:00 minute mark exactly in that video that guy is on the downhill narrow section of Black Gap, but the video, like most videos, makes the terrain look almost flat. The camber of that section is also diminished by video effect.

That one section and the "sharp turn/deep gravel" section on River Road West are really the only "on your game" parts of the park.

Safe travels to everyone, and I'll see you in Terlingua.

I am all ears.. Any suggestions anyone

I will be pitching a tent in one of the camp sites. Anyone knows which camp sites have a communal shower/bathrooms? Power outlet would be a plus too

OK - just a ping here on my Ride 'n Hike plans.

Friday is in the National Park. 6 miles of hiking to a great Rio Grande overlook. Departing from Study Butte gas station at 9:30 am (late start).

Saturday is Big Bend Ranch State Park. 2 to 6 miles of hiking, depending on time, and tougher riding (based on the group - can be 'GS friendly' if needed). Depart 8am from Starlight.

Bring water, lunch, hiking shoes and shorts. Bring gas for Sat, or plan on a detour to Presidio.

I was tempted by your Friday plan but have decided against it ?. Citing poor physical shape and the heat

Sounds great tho...

Riders, lets all go to La Kiva for dinner Friday night. This will be an un-official dinner. Show up whenever you are ready, eat and have a few drinks.

I mistakenly thought breakfast was at Starlight. Saturday's departure will be from Big Bend Motor Inn...

Looking forward to kicking tires and meeting new riders. . Going to be a good time.

Had some problems with my bike today. I won’t be able to ride it back to Dallas. Is there anybody with enough room on their trailer/truck to give me a ride back?

Dan (that's him on foot on the right always helping out , me especially) and I managed to make it up this monster first . I snaked my way from side to side so much I was laughing with joy I made it. It was crazy, we are talking softball and basketball bolders for roads. World class stuff at least for this guy. I grabbed the phone and caught the next group behind . Ropeburn never went down but got his rear klr tire stuck in a gut that took two people to pry him out. More pics to come. Never does it justice on camera but I would gestimate that was a 10% grade
