What: An excellent cafe set in a historic small Texas town. Great burgers and very friendly wait staff. Very popular with Houston area riders and conveniently located next to some fun riding roads. They have a large covered patio deck behind the cafe. Sixteen flavors of Blue Bell ice cream are available for deserts :D The grilled cheese sandwhiches are superb and the fries crisp and hot. The owners and staff are very biker friendly!

I should have eaten here.

I was in Montgomery on Saturday and ate at a place down the street called "The Depot".

The food was ok, even though they don't give you a plate to eat from. I just hate paying restaurant prices and then being expected to eat off paper wrappers and paper trays. Not cool for "The Depot" prices.

My biggest complaint is that the waitstaff were not friendly at all. Not overtly obnoxious, they just acted somewhat miffed that customers were coming in and bothering them. You know, that aire of general disinterest and apathetic sluggishness combined with eye-rolling and plaintive sighs. Grrrr! I hate that!

I won't go back to "The Depot" even though the decor was interesting and pleasing.

I am acctually suprised the Depot is even able to keep thier doors open  King's has much better eye candy :chug:

For anybody's information, King's Cafe closed down last year - 2009. seems that Mrs. King retired and the next gen just couldn't keep it going. Too bad - I really loved going there. Montgomery Steak House is right behind it and they try to fill the same shoes but they just can't do it completely. The bisuits are huge but dry and lacking flavor. The cream gravy is certainly from a powdered mix.

:tab Jimmy and Renee had a third kid, and Jimmy's sister was diagnosed with cancer. They all owned and operated it together for a long time. Also, in the last year or so, Jimmy was working another full time job. It just got to be too much to deal with, so they sold the cafe. It was a sad day because we had been going there for a weekly bike night for quite a few years. Jimmy's sister, Elizabeth, died last October. I really miss seeing them and hanging out on the back deck enjoying a big bowl of BlueBell!

:tab The place got a face lift and new name, Logan's. I've yet to see it open though. I don't know what the story on it is now.
