Re: TxTag for Bikes
I always stick mine in a jacket pocket, tank bag or tail bag. Never had an issue.

Re: TxTag for Bikes
It's like some of you aren't reading the responses.
You DON'T need to carry, mount, pocket, put under the seat or whatever. The camera reads your plate (or maybe not) and your account is debited. |

Re: TxTag for Bikes
True, but if you don't have your account linked to a credit card and you manually put a balance on it, it is nice to see the color of the light when you go through. That way you know if you need to recharge if you get a yellow light. Otherwise there really isn't a reason since the plate reading works fairly well.
In fact, there is one reason to not carry it. If you have your bike on a trailer or in the back of your truck then you get read twice when you shouldn't have. They told me I could dispute those, but why deal with the hassle.

Re: TxTag for Bikes
I broke a fuel fitting on my RT and had to trailer it to LSBMW for repair. I got charged for the truck, the bike (toll tag under the seat) and the trailer.

I think I read the responses but the reason I answered the way I did was one toll road in particular. It was the toll road on 183 in Austin. I was dating a girl in Plugerville and I didn't have a toll pass at the time. Whenever we would take the toll road - I would rely on your theory that the toll authority would be vigilant with sending me a bill. LOL Well they sent me a bill alright. I received a letter about 5 months later saying that I owed over $70 on about a dollar toll and that if I didn't pay a warrant would be issued for my arrest. THAT WAS THE 1ST LETTER I HAD RECEIVED on that toll. About a month earlier I received a toll bill that had gone accrued over $40 in late charges. THAT WAS THE 1ST LETTER I received on that toll. There was a 3rd that I got into double digits. Each of these I argued and tried to "fight". Guess what - NO appeal process. After the 1st letter I received for excessive charges - I went online to search the system to see if I had any tickets floating around. That service was not available at this time. So I call - give an operator my license number to ask him if I had any unpaid tolls. He ran my license plate and said "No". I was furious!!! This was quite literally Hiway robbery!!! The guy listened to me calmly (I'm sure he has heard this before) and said - "Sir, why don't you buy a toll tag? They you can make sure that this never happens again?" I declined because I figured this guy was just pushing a Toll Tag on me (and he probably was) but after thinking about it - $20 on a Toll Tag is a whole lot cheaper than paying fines on tolls. So I swallowed my pride and bought my tag. This also gave me an account online that I could actually monitor. Two years later I can say 2 things: 1. Buy a Toll Tag. It will save you a lot of time, money and frustration. 2. Be careful putting your trust in a toll authority to send you a bill in the mail. They have ONE SINGLE PURPOSE....TO MAKE MONEY. |

How about riding a wheelie while going thru the toll? Surely thats the foolproof way of avoiding toll fees

The NTTA charges your associated credit card $40.00 every time your balance drops to $10.00 automatically. An additional concern for me recently, once you obtain 4 or more toll tags, they automatically "reload" your account at $80.00 a pop whenever your balance drops below $20.00 I have enough account balance to last 5 years based on past usage.......... I am also back down to 3 toll tags....
