Wow. Didn't think I'd live to see the day but maybe...

Harley-Davidson teases its first electric motorcycle...

Is this what it'll look like?

I guess we'll know soon.

If you watch the video on the engadget site, you'll notice that Harley managed to make a loud electric bike. High pitched screaming as it blew by.

Ha! Here's a longer video....my HD riding coworker thinks it's funny that the electric HD is hauled off at the end in a trailer. :D

I'm thinking looped MP3 track that continually plays Banana Banana. Only problem is that, to get the full experience will require such a large amplifier and speaker array that the battery will discharge after 10 miles or so.

So... what other electric bike out there looks as cool? Frankly, I'm stunned that H-D was first out of the chute with an electric bike I consider viable in the marketplace.

The Zero is pretty cool if you like the SuMo look. I agree with you- but I'm not ALL THAT surprised- it is the direction all transportation seems to be going, so better to jump on the wagon early and get to set the market.

It DOES look REALLY cool for an electric bike.

@Cheez, That SP episode is classic.

HD knew they'd have a problem w/ sound and the electric bike. The exhaust pipe is really a hi-tech Bose audio speaker that plays a 30sec loop off the mp3 player near the battery. Just like you can get your ECU flashed at the dealer, you get the choice of how you want your electric bike to rumble.

I don't think the leather vest crowd will be impressed. "Loud pipes save lives man" It looks nice, very moster'esque

Much as I dislike HD, I have to say that this will definitely push the tech into the market place.

Dang, never in my life did I think that I'd type that. :D

It's good to see the HD producing something that is not rooted in the inter-war period, but judging by how well the V-Rod replaced the traditional line up I'm not holding my breath. (No general animosity against HD here. I'd quickly add a V-Rod to the stable if I could be guaranteed to be ignored by the guys who ignore me now when I ride a BMW.)

The Visor Down article offered some odd words:
"If Harley really is going to make this thing, it could be ground-breaking in more ways than one. It might be the first electric bike that mainstream riders will actually take very seriously, and it could broaden Harley's appeal. A double win? Let’s hope so."

Not so sure who they are calling "mainstream riders", but unless Harley-Davidson is some new tech speak for "completely recharges in seven minutes" this is destined to remain a novelty.

Screw the batteries why couldn't they just throw a 1200 in there and make look like that. Best looking sportster ever made!

nice looking bike.
Wonder if there will be an optional oil reservoir auto-dripper. :duck:
