MMMmmm!!!! Bacon! Virginia Ham! (Can't tolerate the salt in the country ham any more).
Many developmental stages ago my Mom asked what I wanted for my birthday. Virginia Ham, candied yams, steamed spinach, steamed sweet corn, sweet tea, and a chocolate birthday cake with chocolate icing.
Mom loaded the car and stuck me and three younger sibling inside. Don't recall if the older one was there or not but he hated me anyway so it doesn't matter. Dear ol' Dad was off doing Army things. No friends--above average intelligence and severe ADHD at 12 usually means no friends. I preferred dead pig to live friends even then.
I suppose she chose a very unusual and expensive park for a reason, one in southeast Virginia that was dedicated to the experiences of the Vikings in the New World long before the Portuguese and Spaniards came this way. Supposedly, the Vikings were here second, after the Siberians. I don't know that much about the peoples of Northern Europe way back then, I was overwhelmed by academic demands before I was able to complete that investigation and never went back. Perhaps I should?
Anywho, everything was scrumptious to me, don't care what the others thought, even if they did. The museum was fascinating. Learned a ton about Northern European histories and cultures.
Did you know that when rowed the Vikings' longboats trapped quantities of air bubbles under the hulls which significantly reduced the hydrodynamic drag compared to other boats of similar size and weight so the longboats were far faster, and able to use more horizontal keel for stability and bigger rudders for quicker steering, but when speed was essential, as in combat, narrower rudders provide all the directional control necessary because of the increased speed capabilities.
Anywho, the vibrations from the ride caused a valley to form in the cake. It was still awesome. Thanks, Mom, best birthday ever.
