::: Vietnam Adventure - Chasing up the rain

A lot of nice pictures, I said it before... I love the vegetation / tropical nature.
Thanks for posting!

I thought it matched the beautiful cafe racer. Have you posted a pic of the car?

Daelim? I've seen chains on car tires for snow but chains on a motorcycle?
That can't be a factory electrical wiring job! :eek2:

Another great ride post!! :rider: BUT it's not an adventure ride unless the top of the bike gets as dirty as the bottom of the bike!

Below pic shows my car with my cafe racer.
You are right about the Daelim. It's **** old bike. People use cam-chains to make the tire useable for all kind of terrain.
Well, it's already "adventure" enough to me though. Rode in the rain, during the night, on the dirt road... Good and fun enough.
Ah, the bike top looked clean as it was almost running in the rain. :rider:

Riding in the rain for some hours, then we came to the highland called Dakmil. Met two friends of ours there:

I am very very envious! Having been in Buôn Ma Thuôt, I recognize some of the places you're traveling.

Though I am a westerner, I lived in Huế in 2005-06 and return often to see old friends. Though I never did any adventure riding in the area you're in, I have been up into the mountains in the Nam Đông district southwest of Huế.

When I lived there, I owned a little Honda Dream - a typical 110 cc motorbike. When I came back to the US, I missed that little bike so much I bought a bike and got back into riding again. My avatar is my wife and I on the Honda during the rain season.

I might add, I never saw bikes like yours while I lived there. I saw a parked Harley once in Cần Thơ and a Goldwing in Huế, but never a V Strom or a Beemer.

I'm a little different than most people who visit Việt Nam as I am a combat veteran of the American War - and am even married to a woman who served there as an Army nurse. I even wrote a book about my experience of being a war vet who returned to live there - "Same River, Different Water: A Veteran's Journey from Vietnam to Việt Nam." ( [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Same-River-Different-Water-Veterans/dp/1467906921/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372385421&sr=1-1&keywords=same+river+different+water"]http://www.amazon.com/Same-River-Different-Water-Veterans/dp/1467906921/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372385421&sr=1-1&keywords=same+river+different+water[/ame] )

I am watching this thread with a lot of anticipation - keep the photos coming. You're making me homesick! Tomorrow I ride from deep south Texas to Houston to spend some time with one of my former students who is now in graduate school at U Houston. Have a bowl of phở for me.

Howdy Mr. Young,
Thanks for your comment. It's my pleasure to share with the world how beautiful and peaceful Vietnam is.
I have heard from a lot of people that they have very much different view and thinking about Vietnam and all its related stuff. And lot of information they have are not so true or very much out of date. I really appreciate the your time spending in Vietnam to teach young people English and giving them ideas about the world beyond the border.
It's really surprising me when seeing your Vietnamese writing. I don't know how can you get it?! Or you have the Vietnamese typing software or just copy from Google :-P. Whatever it is, that tells me how you love Vietnam.
Photos of this thread is still coming, even though not many more.
However, I will keep all my TWT friends posted anytime I have chance to ride out.
Thanks for sharing the link to your book. That must be an interesting book.

. . . It's really surprising me when seeing your Vietnamese writing. I don't know how can you get it?! . . .

Unikey :-P I found out about it while living in Huế and installed it on my laptop.

In a moment I am off to Bellaire, where I will pick up Trang and we'll ride to Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula. I sent the link to this thread to her last night and she replied that it made her feet itchy to ride.

Ride on - loving your report and pix.

Oh yeah. Unikey is my most favorite Vietnamese typing software. Great thing that you can install and use it effectively.

Photos coming...

5 bikers left for the ride. We were going down hill, toward the Hochiminh City.

Is this lake on the road from Đà Lạt to HCMC? Is there a big monument nearby?

I showed some friends the poster on your bike about the islands that China says they own. They agree with you - and I do too!

You make me homesick.

Negative, Doug. It's on the way from Ban Me Thuot to Dalat. Somewhere near Krongno area.
I have no idea why there is a lake. Recently, many lakes appear or disappear due to the construction of hydro-power plants.
Talking about the Vietnamese Islands and seawater, everyone understands and agrees, but the Chinese. :eat:

Another stop at a high point:

Thank you Sir.
I really like to have tracklog for every trip of mine. Sometimes, no time to ride, just open photos and drag the tracklog to enjoy :lol2:

Such large motors! Where are all the little Hondas, Suzukis and Jawas under 250cc?

They were all hidden when we passing thru. :rider:
