NADS in MOAB - "5 Miles of ****" Trail

Here is our start to finish ride through "5 Miles of ****" from last year.

Not for the faint or heart, or sound of mind...

I made it less than 2 minutes in and I already want to go and try it myself. Maybe after more than 2 minutes, I'll "learn".

Haha. 2 minutes hasn't even gotten to the real "5 miles" yet. The truth is that the trail is about 7.5 miles long or so... But the 5 miles in the middle are what it's named for.

That's the first video where it looks like its as difficult as it really is. I had to stop halfway thru to get some work done. Definitely a Great video and I have to watch the rest this afternoon. Brutal.

Haha... that sounds like a thinly veiled critique. 🤣

Well, I meant it this way, most videos make the trail look easy when in reality you feel like you're one mis-step for certain death. That video actually wore me out. I've been to Moab a couple of times and never got into anything that difficult. Hats off to you guys.

WOW! I'm tired just watching.....lol! A few years ago a bunch of us went riding on our vintage Yamaha's (75 DT250) and we tried Metal Masher (I think) and it beat us to death....lol! I can't imagine doing anything like this trail....wow, just wow!!

Haha, just kidding ya. I figured that's how you meant it.
It's quite the bear of a trail. you never really get a good rest or get to pick up much speed due to the unevenness of the rocks (even between the big obstacles) ... but i think we're gonna go back and give it another shot.

Re: NADS in MOAB - "5 Miles of ****" Trail

Ok. Just finished watching this. Great video. You guys had an awesome trip. But IMO you made this far more difficult than it needed to be by going so slow overall. The steep climbs were well done, but still slow so that caused you problems. But keep the speeds up and you'll be much better off next time.

Well it was our 6th day straight riding in Moab. I remember pulling into the parking area and thinking to myself, "are we really doing this after beating ourselves up all week?" I did tell Brian after watching that we look like goons with our wore out riding stances. Lol.

Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I'm pretty sure I'm not up for that ride yet. I had to gopro off 3 times for a rest just watching it.

Re: NADS in MOAB - "5 Miles of ****" Trail

now I've made it up to 15 minutes in and I really want to go and try. Goodness knows I don't have the skills to try, but still. That looks like a lot of fun.

I want to know how on earth you could tell you were following a trail. Most of the time, it looks more like a river wash than a real trail.

There are white paint stripes every 10~15 yards or so on the rocks to follow through the trail.

I noticed the white marks, but at first, only on places where someone could scrape with a skid plate. Then I saw them where you couldn't hit with a plate so I wondered what caused those marks. I guess that's either a great job or crappy job depending on what makes you happy. Painting markers on trails. I could probably get into that job.

Re: NADS in MOAB - "5 Miles of ****" Trail

Stroke@Floored,

Your always amazing on motorcsickles. First you set a Texas IB record from Austin to Deadhorse, Alaska, then you pulverized the nightmare 5 mile road in which I would have lasted about.....50 yards.

Good video footage!
