A. My Mototcycle History:

I drove a Honda Spacey in Perth Western Australia, a place bigger(I must add) than Texas--if that is possible!! I drove it for about two years in the early 1990s after riding two other bikes, one in Perth and one in Port Hedland, whoses names and types I cannot remember now. Australia is "bikeland" par excellance."

B.1 A Poem I Wrote:

My writing is remorselessly and, I like to think, glitteringly intent on diagnosis. The glitter of invention is, for me, everywhere and it is linked with and provides a distinctive literary identity, a creative abundance. For some readers I’m sure this is the case, but not for most. For most who chance upon my writing, though, the affect on them is enervating as it is for me after a long day of writing or even periodically in the course of any single day. I like to think my literary venture is gallant and ambitious, even if it is not really successful in the marketplace. My unremitting concern for detail, for analysis and for comment is not everybody’s and my advice to many would-be readers is to take my writing in small doses.-Ron Price with thanks to Vincent Buckley, “The Novels of Patrick White,” The Literature of Australia, editor, G. Dutton, Penguin, 1972(1964).

I create a world, too, Patrick;
I want to show extraordinary
things behind the ordinary,
the mystery and the poetry,
to transcend the tensions and
explore my world by words.

No mere surface impressionism
but passages, words, vibrant with
significance growing out of profound
numbness and pervasive inarticulateness.

Since I Am Not Writing About Texas....

Since I Am Not Writing About Texas...I think I'd better not post here too much. I will add one more item, though, since I am in my 60s now and, after ten years of riding bikes, I had to give them up for fear of my death. Each month, on average, while riding in the city of Perth WA(a city of 1 million) and some say the most isolated city on the planet, someone would just about run me off the road. Wanting to live a long life I gave up bikes.

Before I close, though, I'll mention that I have not celebrated Christmas since, perhaps, 1961; it is impossible to avoid all the paraphrenalia of Christmas of course. As a Baha’i since 1959 send gifts and emphasize the charitable side of things at the end of February during a period they call Ayyam-i-Ha, intercalary days, days ‘between the calendar years’, February 25th to March 1st. Usually when I mention it to people it reminds them of Japanese motorcycles, or something to that effect. "Ayyamiha" has a special meaning to Baha'is....over and out!-Ron Price, Tasmania

Re: Since I Am Not Writing About Texas....

No problem posting here, especially if you have pictures! ;-)

I was surfing the net for sites that had postings on Kurt Vonnegut. I probably won't post at your site very often--on rare occasion at best. Thanks-Ron

I'll post occasionally, at best. Thanks-Ron

Tasmania...

Ron, you win the award for being the TWT member-from-the-farthest-end-of-the-earth. As I understand it, you don't currently ride a motorcycle - but don't be surprised if the bug hits you again. In fact, joining a rider's forum is often one of the early symptoms. ;-)

I have been warned and I thank you. Actually, a friend here in Tasmania, a man in his late 50s has just bought a motorcycle and is satisfying his middle age dreams on the roads of this last stop on the way to Antarctica.-Ron
