Spot X - Two way communication

Ha! The long-predicted life saving (from SPOT's corporate perspective) move to head off market loss to Garmin (ne, DeLorme)'s inReach.

We've talked about this for several years that the inReach and its 2-way was going to bury SPOT. SPOT had two separate devices which now are blended into the X.

We will see. I'll wait and watch the Tuber reviews before too much more.

If the customer representative had said something like "we have a similar product to the inReach in development, it will be out in three months, and we'll transfer your existing plan to the new one at no extra charge"... I would have stayed with them.

Lousy business planning.

Does Delorme still have better Satellite coverage?

Garmin inReach: Iridium Satellite Network

SPOT: Globalstar Satellite Network

As of this writing Iridium is the only true global full coverage network. If you're only going to use the devices in the USA, then either will work virtually all of the time.

A pretty good comparison article is HERE
