Sorry to say that I don’t anymore, just wished I did.

Had the CBR 1000F up to 160 mph in northern NM. Sweet ride and smooth at that speed.

The matching luggage is the coolest part, hardly see them for sale

That's a beauty.
Nobody needs a whole vmax anyways. The one time I rode one the back tire broke loose shifting from 2nd to 3rd at 80mph

I can hear that....
Pre V Max story- A friend of mine was the lead mechanic at Steakleys Honda Yamaha in the late 70s to 81 ( he has worked at Livermore Labs in CA from the late 80s)
Mr Hux was test riding his latest install....
A turbo on an XS1100 Special for Mr Steakley
He related his experience of nailing the throttle in 4th while heading toward the twin bridges over Lake Waco on Hwy6
" I was trying to get the front wheel back down on the bridge at around 105" he sez...with a look of both terror & utter excitement on his face
He built two of those turbo XS11s ..& a CBX too....it wouldnt stay together though

My brother had a similar experience on a Kawasaki Z1rTC when they were first released. Only his recovery involved a police escort back to the shop to make sure it was 'safely returned to the owner'.
No more test rides for you!

We're looking for an antique/classic race bike, no particular preference but needs to have a good story to tell.

Contact Mark at Southwest Superbikes in Dallas. He has a personal collection of very cool vintage racers and I believe he's pairing it down a bit. Here's a member of TWT as well.

I've got a '74 CB350-Four with a funnish story. I was at a bar near the law school meeting with some old friends. One of them brought a woman along that I'd never met before. She had heard through the grapevine that I had bikes, and she mentioned having just bought one, and that she was already in over her head. I offered to help out any time, always game for some wrenching. We ended up becoming pretty good friends, but she never did dedicate the time to keep it running. I'd fix it about once every 6 months, she'd put 100 miles on it, and then get busy with something else.

When she found out my wife was pregnant, she showed up at my house and said she needed help with the bike. Drove over to her place and she handed me the paperwork and keys and said it's a gift, and to give it to the kid when he's big enough.

It's old, slow, and a little temperamental, but I love it.

Cool story.

I'm heading to Barber Motorsports in Alabama in October for the vintage bike festival. It's supposed to be pretty cool.

I really hope a stray bike doesn't follow me home because in the end I know I'll miss my wife when she's gone. [emoji16]

Vintage makes it sound like it belongs in a museum, I don't own one of those :)

I know Mark well (after dusting him down after a very nasty off at BBNP). He has an amazing collection of every model of TZ ever made but I hadn't heard any willingness to sell. :ponder:

Yep, heard about that one. We've all had our bell rung a few times.

I was talking to him very recently and he gave me the impression he was letting some of them go. Some will be going to the Vintage Festival auction.

Give him a call, you never know.

Hadn't seen this thread before. I have 3 old Virago 750s and lots of parts. I bought the '81 new and it's still my dependable long-rider. I also have an '82 in near showroom condition, and an '83 that is being S L O W L Y modified for long-range travel by addition of an 18" rear wheel to lower RPMs at 70+. with a reroute of the exhaust to give the big tire more room, AND double front disks.
All these have improved ignitions and start systems- the result of 30+ years of investigation on thse First Generation Viragos. I also have a 920 for the '83 frame.
If you haven't attended the Harvest Classic each fall in Luckenback, or the hand-built show in austin each May, you have to put those on your radar.

I enjoy restoring and riding vintage British bikes myself. Just sold a 1966 Norton N15CS so I can make room in the garage for my next project, whatever that turns out to be.
I prefer Norton's but I have had a Vincent Comet, Ariel SQ4, Panther Stroud (the worlds worst trials bike) AJS 18S, Matchless Typhoon, G80 and a G15CSR Triumph T100R Daytona, 70 Norton Commando, 2-74 850 Norton Commando Interstates, 64 Norton Electra. I will have to dig out some pictures and post them. Proper motorcycles shift on the right.
