Steve posted this on one of the Off Road forum

Might be the end of BVORR

Attached to this post is link to city of Bryan map of planned new roads for the near future.

City of Bryan will eminent domain BVORR for multiple road ways. They plan on taking away the access road for a public road, then cross dividing the property by placing three roads that will cross the property from north to south. If you look at the map it appears that the whole area is being divided up for purposes of development. I will be disappointed if the citizens of Bryan approve the funding for this which will in turn largely financially benefit the real estate agents and brokers at taxpayers expense.

In Brazos county property ownership is merely an illusion. In realty you only rent the property from the government until some elected official decides they have a better way to use the property!

If you pull up the map zoom in and scroll around leonard road and you will see all the planned roadways chopping up BVORR!

They will be holding public meetings to discuss time frames

Eminent domain is hardly limited to Brazos County. Consider the toll roads, Texas Motor Speedway, and the new Cowboy Stadium. Despite being used for private enterprise, all survive court scrutiny. Money talks.

Yup, we now let developers take away land from citizens of ordinary means, so they can make roads which the general public will forever have to pay what ever toll price they decide to charge for usage. This is part of Governor Perrys' big business first & foremost approach to running our state. Gone are the days when we would only allow road constructors to charge tolls, until all costs plus a fair and reasonable profit were recouped. At that time the roadway was dedicated into the state public highway system, and the toll gates forever disappeared. That type of public/private partnership was a very effective way to get roads built that the state couldn't afford to bank roll, but still desperately needed to be done. Now we just let big business money whip individuals off their property, so it can be used into perpetuity for extorting an unreasonably large profit from the general public . NICE!!!

Sad but true, Donnie.....:thumbd:

Well heck! First I'd heard of this...but it comes as no surprise. Steve (owner) had ramped up the sandpit operation to the point that riding was becoming less than it once was. The property sits in an area that's growing. A&M built the med school out that way recently. That had to fan the flames for development. Walmart even put in a new superstore on that side of town last year. I'd expect the whole stretch along hwy47 from 21 to 60 is in the crosshairs. Guess we just look back on BVORR as some good times.
