A friend and I traveled through Wisconsin and spent a good amount of time on the T.W.A.T. Flooded roads, washed out bridges and closed trails kept us from seeing it all. We started at Lake Superior and worked our way south. Monday we woke to rain but by 8 it had cleared to sunny skies.
On the bike and ready to head out.
Stopped by the lake for the "lake in the background proof" picture.
From the lake we headed south on the T.W.A.T. Up north it is mostly fire service type roads and full of deer. The weather was cold near the lake (40 deg) but warmed quickly as you went south. We road in mostly 70 to mid 80's temperatures. Really pleasant.
This is how most of the day passed. Beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife. At times the route went on to more trail like paths and those were really slick with mud from all of the rain the area had received. The results were inevitable.
We had a (non bike riding) friend driving an RV and that was to be our nightly stop. The rain kept us from spending the first night in a campground as we didn't want to get the RV stuck. So we spent that first night on asphalt.
Day Two was my favorite. Weather was pleasant, as we seemed to some how miss every rain storm and cruised along between 45 and 55 mph on the back roads.
We stopped to check out a cheese factory. Hey we are in Wisconsin!
At this point we had about 400 miles of trail completed and we were starting to feel it.
Day two ended in one of Wisconsin's wonderful campgrounds. This state really has nice facilities!
Day three we broke from the route and went to see some of the things we had on our "list of things to see" like the free ferry!
Now on to the next adventure. Anyone up for the Trans Arkansas Trail?
