Re: Then Came Bronson

Okay I picked up a Sportster 05 883 XL, This is the first HD I've had or even ridden since 85, I had a 77 XLCH that I bought new but it's been a very long time, one thing hasn't changed, when I test rode this bike it gave me a fever and made me feel like I was 20 years old again, I will be making many changes to this bike starting with mid mount pegs, It's no 69 model but it's the best I can do to start a TCB bike, the correct paint and sissy bar will bring it a long way but for now I love the current blue, one thing at a time, it will come.

Re: Then Came Bronson

Looks good Trailduster! When You get ready for the correct sissy bar, We can hook You up. When You are ready for paint I will donate a set of correct All seeing eyes for the tank. I only have a few left, and the guy that made them for Me is out of business. I found that Honda Tahitian Red is almost identical to Bronson red.
BTW, the annual Then Came Bronson re-union will be in Amarillo/Canyon this year, first week in June. We will have at least 6 Bronson bikes in attendance and Guests from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Hiroshima, Japan, home of the www.jimbronson.com. Everyone is welcome to come hang out.

Re: Then Came Bronson

I may have a very close copy sissy bar, but it's not a direct bolt-on for the Sportster, unless the stars aligned and I didn't have my telescope out for the event...

Re: Then Came Bronson

The sissy bar would be awesome, I'll be spent out for a little while, new tires, mid pegs, deleting and replacing all the little skull plates, handlebars grips etc. Thanks for tip on the paint and if you can save me a pair of all seeing eye's, I can't wait for this to come together, Will look forward to the pics from Amarillo, Thanks for the invite, Oh yeah, fork gaiters are a must too.

Trailduster, the actual Bronson sissy bar was a hollow Schwinn bicycle bar. One of Our Guys has one on His Bronson bike. It is flimsy and cant stand any weight, such as a passenger leaning against it. One of Our group is a Master Metalsmith, and has built all of Our sissy bars. They are very strong, and durable. He can build You one and then You send it to chrome. I designed My own mounting system for the one on My bike, and the whole bike could be lifted into the air by the sissy bar with no damage. On the jimbronson.com website, there is a section that gives step by step instructions to build a replica bike.

Re: Then Came Bronson

Thank you Donson, I think I had that same sissy bar on my apple crate bike around the same time as the show.

Re: Then Came Bronson

Howdy, Donson. I've been following the TCB movement ever since Jon started the 'thencamebronson' site, then found the 'jimbronson' site recently. Both are outstanding tributes to the legacy.

Like so many others, that show is the reason I ride. I went from a Suzuki 90 to a new 1977 Super Glide. That one crashed and burned in '79. Marriage and kids kept me busy, but now that the boys are grown, I've recently got back up on two wheels.

I've enjoyed reading your posts here. Keep it going, and 'Hang in there.'

Re: Then Came Bronson

I had never seen nor heard of Then Came Bronson before I started frequenting this site and saw this thread...

I just watched two episodes someone had uploaded onto DailyMotion and enjoyed it. I can't tell if it is truly in the writing/direction of the show or also just a product of the times, but I really enjoy how it is a slower-paced show. Everything on TV now has to be rapid-fire, action-packed with lots of fast edits to keep the ADD-addled entertained. Then Came Brownson seems relaxed, almost meditative in the pacing of some of its scenes. And I really appreciate the fact that Bronson as a character isn't some brash tough guy. The show has a gentleness as a kind of emotional undercurrent... Like "do no harm"...

Also, I can't help but think whoever directed the show must have had the involvement of fellow riders, because it shows things/visuals that non-riders probably wouldn't focus on.

Re: Then Came Bronson

The reason the show was so real from the biker view is that it was based on a real life "Bronson" named Birney Jarvis. He passed recently and Donson has pictures and I think some references to him earlier in this thread. That guy had been everywhere, man.

Re: Then Came Bronson

Yeah, guess I didn't glean all that from my first cursory read of this thread a while back. Guess I was just looking at the Sportster pictures!

But, I did just go back and read the entire thread. Cool story and Birney sounded like quite an interesting guy.

I sure miss My Pal, Birney.
He does watch O'Reilley every night with Me. Really!

Re: Then Came Bronson

I have the whole TV series on VHS-to-DVD, quality sucks, and there is the ever-present TNT logo when commercials are coming up, which are edited out, thankfully.

But, thank goodness Ted Turner put this on his network down in the south-east for the good folks in that region.

There were many young-and-budding stars who guested on the series. And, there were many moral judgments put to the viewers each episode.

The pilot movie is released by Warner Bros., thank goodness. Now, lets hope for the series.

No, it is not. The pilot movie was re-released a couple years ago and it was re-mastered. The quality is very good!
