Dahveed had some weird rear tire wear on the 705 Shinko...so he hedded bac north outta Durango to Purgatory
Im hedded south on CO172NM511 527 to US64 east
Phone prob pretty spotty for a while after this...

Mr2mch, if you take US64 all the way to Taos, I always enjoy the food at Orlando's. Anything with green chile on it is good, especially the papas con queso y chile and the chile rellenos.

Stopped in Chama for a quik burger.... Well...mabe quikish?

The ride....
Once into NM on 511... The road got nice n twisty...reminded me of the Hill Country FMs n RRs

& then..

Navajo Lake State Park

This is where 539 splits off of 511
...NO SIGNS....539 Jus goes across the narrow dam.... Kinda un nerving riding across...!! ..no rails either side
511 is the road angling down the backside of the dam into the valley

The pavement on either road was iffy.... More so on 539
Several sandy washes on the short stretch
Its a hidden hoot

Kinda like county roads bac home

If you went south out of dinasour did your gps go nuts when you came down off the pass about 30 or 40 miles NW of grand junction or was that just me imagining things ?

The good thing abut todays NM ride.....
Theres no road construction delays....!

US64 between Tierra Amarilla & Tres Piedras was in bad shape..... Its a sad shape
Pockmarked pavement to the max....frost heaves...u name it

I better make tracks to a motel now

I gambled & made Las Vegas tonite....
Skirted the rain around Taos.... Heck....for that matter... I skirted downtown Taos too
A nice little series of county roads west of town took me from 64 almost strait to 518
A bit of Fri afternoon traffic tho.... Its on the map

518 was in better shape than 64!!

& yes....Im ridin back.....
Gene smelled his ranch & hedded bac with the truck n trailer yesterday

That skipping downtown Taos is handy . The last of the cool was 518 so enjoy the blast furnace the rest of the way home . At least you don't have to go all the way to Houston so that's better than my ride across there . 50 degrees this morning in steamboat . I'm not complaining .

My ride ended a little early when I noticed some "flaws" developing in my rear tire.

I've run 4 sets of Shinko tires in my motorcycling life and have had serious problems with 2 of the rears. No more Stinko tires for me.

At the 4Winds restaurant

The motel quikie evaporated
Temps in the high desert on NM3 & US54 have been nice
...so much so that Ive kept my windbreaker on over the mesh..... I'll still need it leavin here for Capitan Alto
Ruodoso & Cloudcroft

Oh...& if you havent been on NM3.... Do it sometime.... A little rough in places... But no traffic.... 2nd time for me

I had to haul a 1200 gs home from Terlingua last fall because of stinkos. I can't say I was ever tickled with a Asian tire , they work but never impressed .

Well...I ran into a bit of rain today comin outta Ruidoso on 244
Kept on rainin Off an on to Mayhill...where it really let loose.
So I took a break..... & someone else did too

James Starling & crew ...hedded for Durango from Floresville
I met them several years ago at the first or second Roll the Bones

Then the phone rang.... It was Liteitup.... Phil n RZ500rich were in Cloudcroft!!! Huh

I diverted from Hobbs to Lovington cuz of the storms... & road construction delays

Ole Jax Burger....
A double n rings

Now in Hobbs for the nite...
I had hoped to make Snyder... But ol ma nature had other plans

You get what you pay for is accurate here.

I heard the Metzelers are now made in China. That was on the internet, so it might not be true.

Oh its true..... The front on my Tenere is one....
But the Tourance is holding up pretty good in my eyes

PhilHill bought a set for his Wee.... & when he found that they were made in China.... Wouldnt consider puttn em on..... I convinced him to go ahead since he wouldnt get much for em by reselling... & a return would also lose $$..... Hes been happy with em so far....in his limited riding time due to shoulder problems

Time for breakfast... & a blast toward home.......

Last of the cool air was in Snyder.... Until I came up on a few showers between Gustine & Lamkin..... Nice n cool.... Then it started rainin on me coming outta Hamilton...
Stopped in Jonesboro for a burger (& reasonably priced gas $2.45 prem)
Last blast was down 217.....

Thru Mosheim
Waitin on anuther shower here in Valley Mills..... Almost done......

I know you experienced mediocre sausage gravy this trip. I ate at a bakery yesterday and the biscuits and gravy were great! Sorry, no photos.
